Netflix now streaming ‘one of the best films of the decade’ | Films | Entertainment

Netflix subscribers are in for a treat as a critically lauded modern epic from 2022 is now available to stream at no additional charge.

The film, which garnered high praise upon its release, has also been hailed as one of the standout movies of the decade.

Featuring an unforgettable performance by Cate Blanchett, which earned her an eighth Oscar nod, the film left audiences spellbound.

Cinephiles can now experience the captivating drama Tar on Netflix, where Blanchett delivers a tour-de-force portrayal of Lydia Tar, a celebrated composer whose life unravels amidst controversy.

Directed by Todd Field, the movie sees Blanchett’s character navigating the pinnacle of her career before a scandal threatens everything she’s built, reports the Mirror.

Peter Bradshaw from The Guardian awarded Tar a full five stars, describing Blanchett as a “perfect lead in delirious, sensual drama” and claiming “her performance will pierce you like a conductor’s baton through the heart”.

The Independent also extolled the film, noting: “Tar is essentially about our current moment, and all the whirlpools of discourse around #MeToo and ‘cancel culture’, but rarely in a way that feels like a polemic or a pat on the back.

“It answers the question of ‘should we separate the art from the artist?’ by laying bare how impossible a demand that is.”

In a survey conducted by World of Reel involving 100 critics, Tar clinched the second spot, just behind Christopher Nolan’s Oscar-winning hit Oppenheimer.

The film review giant Collider has recently lauded the film on their compilation of the 35 best movies of the 2020s, remarking: “Tar might feel like a biographical film about a divisive figure within the world of music known as Lydia Tar, especially given how real Cate Blanchett, in the lead role, makes the titular character feel.”

The movie has been causing quite a stir on Reddit too, where cinephiles vigorously debate the standout flicks of the decade. Tar is frequently popping up as a top pick among movie buffs.

One conflicted Redditor expressed, “Tar or Another Round; it’s hard to decide,” prompting another to enthusiastically respond, “Tar was so damn good.”

On Letterboxd, cineaste Zoe Rose Bryant praised Blanchett’s portrayal in Tar as potentially one of the greatest film performances ever, declaring: “It’s not hyperbole to say that Cate Blanchett gives maybe one of the greatest performances I’ve EVER seen in Todd Field’s Tar…

“A chilling character study of a famed conductor and her fall from grace – fueled by her own hubris and self-obsession – directed with Kubrickian control.

“At 158 minutes, it may be seem like a daunting and demanding watch to some, but there wasn’t a single second where I wasn’t entirely enthralled.”

Another user, Wes, also heaps praise on Blanchett, stating she delivers “one of her best, if not her single best performance” in what he calls “one of the most astonishingly directed and achingly made films in recent years.”

The question remains: will you let Tar take the spotlight in your week?

Tar is available to stream on Netflix.
