Nationwide issues update over deposit rule applying at all branches | Personal Finance | Finance


Nationwide Building Society has clarified the rules around its branch services. The group provided some details about a deposit rule that applies at any of its branches.

Nationwide currently has more than 600 high street branches. The group has pledged to keep open all its branches until at least 2030.

A customer recently asked the group on social media about making a deposit. They asked: “Can I deposit one penny and two penny coins (not mixed) in branch if they are bagged up in bags of one pound? I have £30 in total.”

In response, Nationwide said: “You can deposit any amount of bagged coin into your account at your local Nationwide branch. You can find your nearest branch here.”

They shared a link to a branch finder tool on the Nationwide website. You can deposit loose coins at a Nationwide branch. If you have a large number of coins to deposit, the branch can give you bags to separate the coins into.

Nationwide also recently clarified its rules around when it may block your account, after a customer received some messages allegedly from the group. One of the messages said that Nationwide “may block your account” as the group needed to check they had the correct address for them.

The message said that Nationwide had sent a letter to the customer that had been returned. Asked to clarify the rules, Nationwide said: “If we spot something that doesn’t look right, for example if post is returned, we’ll proactively get in touch with customers to confirm their new address or other details.

“If we still don’t hear back, we’ll let them know their account may be temporarily blocked for their own protection, but as soon as we hear from the customer this would be updated.” The group also said what to do if you receive a message you are not sure is genuinely from Nationwide.

The provider said: “If a customer ever receives a message they’re unsure about, they can call us, visit a branch, or use our new Call Checker feature to confirm they’re speaking with Nationwide. And for everyday banking, they can also rely on our app’s biometric and selfie authentication to keep things simple and secure.”
