NASA Artemis II launch: Where to watch historic moon mission as it’s set to begin in hours | Science | News

NASA has announced where the Artemis II launch will be available to watch as the astronauts prepare for the historic Moon mission. Tomorrow, the crew is expected to begin their 10-day mission around the far side of the Moon – the side we never see – and back to Earth.

NASA is still aiming to launch at 6.24pm EDT (11.24pm GMT) on April 1, provided favourable weather. If this date is missed due to unfavourable weather conditions or other issues, there are additional opportunities for launch up to April 6, and then again at the end of the month. NASA will provide live coverage of prelaunch, launch, splashdown, and other activities, which can be viewed from around the world.

The agency will be live-streaming on its YouTube channel, Twitch, X, and Facebook, as well as its app and NASA+ streaming service.

Third-party streaming services will also provide coverage, including Netflix, Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Hulu, and Roku. The Express will also be bringing you live coverage of the event as well as a live stream from launch to arrival, so stay tuned.

The rocket’s crew is made up of astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen. They will be the first people to fly on the Space Launch System and the Orion spacecraft.

The rocket was set to launch in February, but a helium leak was discovered, and it had to return to the Vehicle Assembly Building in Cape Canaveral for repairs.

NASA said the problem has now been fixed, and Artemis II was rolled back to the Florida launchpad on March 19 ahead of the launch.

Artemis II has already been delayed by two years after the first mission uncovered problems with the heat shield during the Space Launch System and Orion capsule’s flight to the Moon without anyone on board.

In December 2024, NASA set a new deadline to launch it before the end of April 2026.
