Mohamed Salah makes Liverpool demand minutes after Man City | Football | Sport

Mohamed Salah demanded that Liverpool win the Premier League title, having moved a step closer to doing so with a 2-0 victory away to Manchester City.

Despite his incredible success on Anfield, Salah has just one league title to his name, and called on his team-mates to deliver another for the senior players in the squad.

Reflecting on his legacy in the aftermath of the victory, he told Sky Sports: “We need another title. Me and the big guys in the team, we need another title.”

He was referring to himself alongside the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alisson, with the goalkeeper the sole player who is not out of contract at the end of the season.

The 2024/25 campaign may be the last chance of silverware for many of those players, an idea Salah is very aware of and wants to sign off on a positive note if he does exit Merseyside upon the expiry of his contract.

The Egyptian was speaking alongside Dominik Szoboszlai, after the pair combined twice to down City, and was wary of blowing an 11-point lead at the top of the table.

“It is incredible,” Salah added on the dressing room atmosphere. “It is a very hard place to come and play here. They are a tough team and they have an incredible manager I am glad in the end we won the game.

“It is special. Especially when you are in the title race, it is incredible. Hopefully we keep calm because sometimes the pressure gets to us. We try to win each game.”

Liverpool supporters chanted “we’re going to win the league” at the Etihad and although Szoboszlai insisted that he did not hear that message during the match, assured that the focus is on their next match already.

“I didn’t hear it, I was so tired,” he shared. “We have to keep going and Newcastle is going to be a tough game and then 11 more games to go. It never ends so we have to keep calm and keep going and at the end hopefully, we will get there.

“We played with two number 10s and they managed the game almost 90 per cent but at the end the result is for us and we are happy to take the three points home.

“We were defending 30 metres from our goal and we gave everything. It is part of the game. Sometimes you don’t have the ball and we are happy to take the three points.”
