Mohamed Salah has instructed his agent to discuss a move to to Saudi Arabia at the end of the season, according to reports. The mercurial winger has been tipped to leave Liverpool in the summer, when he will have one year remaining on his contract. He has remained at Anfield following his public bust-up with Arne Slot but is still being heavily linked with the Saudi Pro League.

The speculation is nothing new, with Salah being the subject of a huge bid from Al-Ittihad two years ago. Liverpool were said to have rejected an offer in the region of £150million for the forward’s services. Al-Ittihad are still believed to be keen on signing Salah and have started talks with his representatives to discuss a potential summer switch, according to Foot Mercato.

The report adds that Salah has approved those talks and is ‘much more open’ to a move than he was previously, with a deal at the right price able to satisfy all parties.

Liverpool would still be able to command a transfer fee, although it won’t be as high as the £150m they previously rejected due to Salah’s contract situation.

Al-Ittihad would be getting a star player who is revered in the Middle East and would be welcomed with a similar level of fanfare to Cristiano Ronaldo when he joined Al-Nassr in 2022.

Salah, meanwhile, would get the opportunity to play closer to his home country of Egypt while receiving a higher salary than he is currently on at Liverpool.

Players can famously rake in huge salaries in the Gulf state without needing to pay income tax.

Salah is currently believed to be earning around £400,000 per week at Liverpool but is taxed a significant portion of his earnings.

If he manages to secure a deal of equal value in Saudi Arabia, he would be saving around £9.8m per year in cash that would otherwise be deducted by HMRC.

However, given the astronomical salaries given to high-profile players in the Saudi Pro League, there is a likelihood that Salah would earn even more.

It remains to be seen how the situation will play out over the coming months, with the prospect of Salah leaving Liverpool appearing more likely ahead of the summer window.
