Modern £1 coin with this ‘tiny’ mark could be worth £60 – how to spot | Personal Finance | Finance

A £1 coin still in circulation could be worth 60 times its face value. Brits have been urged to keep an eye out for a certain coin with a “tiny” mark.

In a video uploaded to social media platform TikTok, an expert known as the Coin Collecting Wizard explained what to look for. According to him, this piece was minted in 2016 and could be hiding in your change.

Speaking to his followers, the expert said: “Here is £1 coin you must keep searching for worth £60.” This would’ve been among the first of the new 12-sided £1 coins made and released in 2017.

The valuable mark you need to be looking for is a tiny cross on the bottom left-hand side of the coin’s reverse (tail side).

It will be located underneath the crown but above the word “one”.

He continued: “Most 2016 £1 coins look the same as the later ones, but some of them have a tiny crosslet cross privy mark near the bottom left.

“This mark was added only for special sets and only a limited number of coins have it.

“This tiny crosslet cross can be found just below the design near the rim of the coin.” He said this could be “easy to miss”.

He added: “It’s easy to miss but collectors are willing to pay big money for it.”

Then, he discussed the worth of the coin.

“So what’s it worth?” he said. “A regular 2016 £1 coin – just £1.

“But if yours has this special privy mark, it can sell for £60 with some listings even higher.

“So go pour out your £1 coins and search for this one.”

At the time of reporting, a coin with this mark was listed on eBay for £94.29.
