Miami Open star storms off in tears as Martina Navratilova stunned | Tennis | Sport

Katerina Siniakova departed the court at the Miami Open in distress after suffering a first-round loss to Camila Osorio. The tournament, which commenced on Tuesday in Florida, has already been marred by considerable drama following the withdrawal of several high-profile players, including Novak Djokovic and Emma Raducanu.

Just days after his Indian Wells final loss to Jannik Sinner, Daniil Medvedev was also left pleading with United Airlines for updates about his missing luggage. However, Tuesday evening saw Siniakova grab the headlines in Miami after she departed the court in tears following her straight-sets loss to Osorio. The Czech player went down 6-1, 6-4 to the Colombian, with Siniakova collapsing to the ground during the final point of the match.

Whilst Osorio promptly rushed across the court to check if Siniakova was alright, the latter offered a brief handshake before hurrying past her opponent. Clearly puzzled, Osorio followed, attempting to check on Siniakova to ensure she was fine.

However, Siniakova was in no frame of mind to engage. She seized her bag and exited the court in Miami in tears, evidently devastated by her loss to Osorio.

A commentator on TV asked former tennis star Martina Navratilova: “They seemed to be besties about 30 minutes ago, what happened there?”

The 69-year-old was left lost for words, replying: “I have no idea. That was… Osorio is one of the nicest players on the tour and she’s trying to go over just to see her and unfortunately things were just getting a bit emotional. Terrible way for this one to end,” the commentator added.

The loss was also the second Siniakova had suffered at the hands of Osorio in recent weeks, after the Colombian defeated her 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 at the Qatar Open last month.

And it was also not the first occasion in recent weeks that Siniakova has been embroiled in on-court drama either. After defeating 2025 Indian Wells champion Mirra Andreeva to put an end to her title defence in California, Siniakova was forced to witness the former unleash a tirade of abuse towards the spectators present.

While Osorio could only smile after defeating the teenage prodigy, Andreeva was furious, hurling her racket aside before shouting toward the crowd.

Cameras captured the 18‑year‑old swearing at spectators, leaving little to the imagination. She appeared to mouth: “F*** you all, f*** you all.”
