Netflix viewers globally have been engrossed in Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, which arrived on the streaming giant just in time for the festive season. The film is the third instalment of director Rian Johnson’s murder mystery series, starring Daniel Craig as the brilliant detective Benoit Blanc, reports the Manchester Evening News.
In this latest chapter, Blanc finds himself embroiled in a perplexing case at a church in upstate New York. Young Catholic priest Jud Duplenticy, portrayed by Josh O’Connor, becomes the prime suspect in the murder of fellow clergyman Jefferson ‘Monsignor’ Wicks, played by Josh Brolin. As Blanc delves deeper into the case, he uncovers long-hidden secrets.
Wake Up Dead Man continues the tradition of its Netflix predecessors with an impressive line-up of A-list talent. Mila Kunis from That ’70s Show stars as police chief Geraldine Scott, Marvel Hawkeye’s Jeremy Renner plays doctor Nat Sharp, Kerry Washington of Scandal fame portrays lawyer Vera Draven, Fleabag’s Andrew Scott appears as author Lee Ross, Cailee Spaeny from Mare of Easttown takes on the role of concert cellist Simone Vivane, Thomas Haden Church of Sideways fame plays Samson Holt, and Daryl McCormack features as Cy Draven.
The star-studded cast also features The Hunger Games actor Jeffrey Wright as Bishop Langstrom, Annie Hamilton as Grace Wicks, James Faulkner as Prentice Wicks, Bridget Everett as Louise, Noah Segan as Nikolai, and a cameo from Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a baseball announcer. However, the character of Martha Delacroix, a steadfastly loyal servant to Monsignor and the church she was raised in, has piqued viewers’ interest.
