‘Masterpiece’ WW2 film on Netflix with 100% Rotten Tomatoes rating | Films | Entertainment

A “masterpiece” World War 2 film with a stellar 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes is now showing on Netflix, and fans can’t get enough of it. Viewers said the lead actor was “phenomenal”, the film itself was “fantastic in every way”, and they were compelled to learn more about the man behind the true story, Gunnar Sønsteby, or ‘Agent 24’.

The film tells the extraordinary tale of how Sønsteby went from a young apprentice to become Norway’s most decorated war hero after making a brave choice to resist on the day the Nazis invaded Norway. Through daring acts of sabotage, he eventually became the leader of the fierce resistance group known as the “Oslo-gang”, and became the only person to be awarded the War Cross with three swords, Norway’s highest military decoration.

Critics have been unanimous in their praise of the film, Number 24, which currently holds a 100% Rotten Tomatoes rating, with one reviewer calling it a “modest triumph” and another describing it as “tense in the best way”.

Audiences echoed that response, awarding it a 95% score. Viewers were particularly vocal about the lead actor, Sjur Vatne Brean, whose performance was described as a “masterclass in subtlety”.

The audience reviewer said: “The lead actor is phenomenal. As a man of laser focus and few words, Gunnar commands the screen through the smallest, most restrained expressions, and every one of them lands. It’s a masterclass in subtlety, and he delivers a gripping, believable performance.”

The film builds tension through careful control rather than relying on action-packed set pieces, and examines the psychological toll of war, highlighting the extraordinary risks citizens undertake.

Another viewer said it was the first film they had ever awarded five stars, while a third added: “Truly amazing film. So much so that it compelled me to create an account just so I could rate it 5 stars. Unbelievably good.”

While review site Next Movie Stop deemed it a “masterpiece” that shows the “compelling world” of Agent 24.

The film is streaming now on Netflix.
