A “masterpiece” film starring Leonardo DiCaprio that fans say is sure to win an Oscar is available to rent or buy. One Battle After Another (2025) is a surreal, genre-bending drama that focuses on a gang of far-Left revolutionaries called the French 75, who carry out attacks against a powerful and repressive fictional US regime.

A tragedy sends the group into hiding, and Bob, also known as “Ghetto” Pat Calhoun, (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) all but retires from his activities to raise his daughter. But when sinister military officer Col. Steven J. Lockjaw (Sean Penn) starts to pursue her Bob is pulled back in a world he swore he’d left behind.

The film was produced, written, and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, and inspired by Thomas Pynchon 1990 novel Vineland. It features an all-star cast, including Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, and Teyana Taylor.

Chase Infiniti stars as Bob’s daughter Willa in her film debut. Fans have flocked to IMDb to heap praise upon the film, with one calling it “astonishing”.

“This is not an ‘ordinary’ movie. It is at times baffling yet enthralling, and I am left feeling like I have watched a masterpiece unfold before my eyes without realising it until it neared its end,” they wrote.

Another hailed as a “masterpiece” adding: “This movie is probably the best movie I have seen in theatres possibly ever. The cinematography and acting of this movie are off the charts.

“It tackles some tough ideas incredibly well and just keeps you guessing the whole time. An absolute blast. Not a moment of dullness, easiest 10 of my entire life.”

One suggested the film is all but certain to get the nod at the next Academy Awards. “I will definitely see it again. Leo and Sean Penn were great as always, but everyone’s performance was excellent”.

“This one is a must watch and Oscar is secured,” they added. The film has received 13 nominations and is widely considered a front-runner for the top gongs.

Some weren’t taken with the film, and struggled to understand what the film was trying to say. However, even some of those left baffled were blown away.

A fan on Rotten Tomatoes, where the movie has a 94% Tomatometer score, said for “a majority of the film I was saying, WTF, but it still grabs you and doesn’t let you go”.

Another said it’s “verything a dark comedy satire should be”. They added: “Imaginative and well executed with stellar actors. Will become a cult classic for decades to come.”

The film has a 15 certificate and contains strong language, sex references, violence, and references to sexual violence – so viewer discretion is advised.
