‘Masterpiece’ series that’s the ‘best gothic horror TV show’ of all time is on Netflix | Films | Entertainment
A Gothic series dubbed a masterpiece, and the best of its kind, is currently available to watch on Netflix. The horror that was first released in 2018 has been ranked by TVLine as the best gothic horror TV show, with the website calling the show an “ultimate masterpiece”.
The Haunting of Hill House created by Mike Flanagan is a remix of Shirley Jackson’s 1959 novel of the same name, and it boasts an incredible rating of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, where the synopsis reads: “This modern reimagining of the Shirley Jackson novel follows siblings who, as children, grew up in what would go on to become the most famous haunted house in the country.
“Now adults, they are forced back together in the face of tragedy and must finally confront the ghosts of their past. Some of those ghosts still lurk in their minds, while others may actually be stalking the shadows of Hill House.”
‘Gripping’, ‘perfection’ and ‘super freaky’ are just a few of the words that have been used to describe the must-watch series, which has been spoken highly of by both critics and viewers.
Alta Fidelidad Magazine declared it as “one of the best horror series ever made is, without a doubt,”, with Collider similarly writing: “The Haunting of Hill House is both an absolutely terrifying ghost story, but it’s also an emotionally devastating familial drama. And it’s one of the best shows Netflix has released thus far.”
On Rotten Tomatoes, a fan who watched the series just last month wrote: “An absolute masterpiece. There’s things happening in the background and it feels like Flanagan thought about every tiny detail in this series. It’s scary, it’s sad, it’s everything I hoped it would be. I would say this definitely raised my standards for a good horror movie or series.”
Multiple viewers even went as far as saying the series was “perfect” or “near perfection”, whilst adding that it comes under their favourite horror series ever”.
One said: “This series had moments of perfection followed by moments that weren’t perfect but still brilliant. So well done.”
Another wrote: “*happy tears* This TV show is everything I’ve ever wanted in a horror series. It’s actually scary, the drama is interesting and the characters are easy to get invested in, and the story and plot go hand in hand. Greatest Netflix show of all time, perhaps greatest overall TV show of all time. Go watch it if you’re a horror fan.”
In addition to the storytelling and frightening elements, fans praised the cinematography and cast, with audiences, critics, and TVLine all noting it as some of Mike Flanagan’s finest pieces of work.
