Martina Navratilova slams Donald Trump amid fear over US citizenship | Tennis | Sport

After a video of White House adviser Stephen Miller gushing praise to Trump about how he feels the multi-billionaired has “saved” the USA, Navratilova unleashed her anger on social media.

In the video, Miller said: “Let me just say, Mr. President, that this country was going to die without you. This country was going to actually die without you. That’s what we were facing in 2024.

“We’ve been invaded for four years. Our communities were sinking. Our public safety had gone to zero. Cartels were running entire communities. Sex trafficking, child trafficking, labour trafficking was out of control.

“Overdoses were out of control. The cartels were claiming more and more territory. City services were buckling. This was a country on the verge of dying. And you alone saved it.”

Navratilova wasted no time in hitting out at the Californian, tweeting: “This country has been fine for 250 years. It’s a work in progress that Trump is single-handedly destroying. And that’s not me saying it. It’s literally hundreds of millions of people saying it.”

Navratilova appeared to be referring to the ‘No Kings’ protests across the USA, which have been estimated to have had over seven million people protesting against the US President.

In a previous interview with the BBC, Navratilova has admitted she feels the USA would not have allowed her into the country, had a Trump style immigration policy been in place at the time. In June, when asked if she felt the USA was becoming a “totalitarian” country, she said: “Well, yeah.

“When they are checking your social posts to decide whether you can stay in the country, even though you already have a legal visa, and they want to send you back. We’ve made it so difficult for people to already get legal immigration status in America.

“Then we complain about illegal immigrants to make it almost impossible. Then the people who have done it by the book, they still get chucked out. What is not totalitarian about that? They would not have let me in, probably, because I’m not loyal to Donald Trump I guess.

“I don’t know what would happen to me. If I was now in that same position and I had to go live somewhere, it would not be America. It’s not a democracy at the moment.”
