Man Utd ‘submit massive Bryan Mbeumo bid’ with transfer deal under threat | Football | Sport

Manchester United have reportedly submitted a third transfer bid for Bryan Mbeumo which meets Brentford’s valuation. The move looked to be under threat when Newcastle United turned their attention to Mbeumo’s Brentford team-mate, Yoane Wissa, on Thursday.

The Bees are only willing to lose one of their formidable attacking duo this summer, so if Newcastle tied up a quick deal for Wissa, Mbeumo would have been taken off the table entirely. And the Magpies are desperate to make a statement having ramped up talks for their top striker target, Hugo Ekitike, only for Liverpool to muscle in ahead of them.

United have therefore taken the rapid sequence of events as their cue to slap more money on the Brentford negotiating table. According to The Athletic, their latest offer is a £70million package comprising £65m up front and a further £5m in add-ons.

That figure hits the mark Brentford had reportedly been holding out for, and also ticks the box of the vast majority being paid up front. Old Trafford chiefs are now eagerly awaiting a response from the Gtech Community Stadium.

United were previously unsuccessful with bids of £55m (£45m plus £10m in add-ons), and £62.5m (£55m plus £7.5m in add-ons). Ruben Amorim will hope this third offer is sufficient to get the job done and allow the club’s recruitment staff to move onto strengthening other areas of the squad.

There should be no hold-ups once Brentford green light the offer, with Mbeumo already believed to have agreed on personal terms.

United have not made a senior signing since unveiling Matheus Cunha on June 12. If the move goes through, Mbeumo will be a statement acquisition, with the Cameroon international scoring 20 Premier League goals last season.

Fresh from the appointment of former Brentford boss Thomas Frank, Tottenham were also interested in signing Mbeumo. But the 25-year-old made it clear to all parties that his heart was set on a move to Old Trafford.

Mbeumo comes with the added benefit of being able to play in multiple attacking positions. He is dangerous cutting in from the right wing and using his clinical left foot, and he can also play as an orthodox centre-forward.

United were always likely to bolster their attacking ranks this summer after scoring just 44 goals in 38 league games last season. Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho are all training separately from Amorim’s main squad as they search for moves away.
