Man Utd star ‘liked’ post mocking Ruben Amorim and faces suspension | Football | Sport

Patrick Dorgu is walking a tight disciplinary line and could be suspended for Manchester United‘s clash with West Ham if he picks up another yellow card against Crystal Palace on Sunday. It comes as the defender’s Instagram account ‘liked’ a social media post mocking manager Ruben Amorim‘s tactical decisions.

The 21-year-old left-back’s account engaged with a post from ‘mufcunion’ that criticised Amorim’s deployment of Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro as a midfield partnership. The post featured a comment from X, which said: “Any coach that sees Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes as a viable pivot is one that isn’t serious.” The Instagram caption read: “Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro CANNOT play together,” which received a ‘like’ from Dorgu’s account.

The Danish defender faces his own concerns heading into the Palace fixture. Should the full-back be cautioned against the Eagles, he will be ruled out of United’s home encounter with West Ham on Thursday.

Amorim has yet to address Dorgu’s social media activity publicly, although the Portuguese coach has more pressing matters to contend with, given United’s current struggles. The Red Devils currently occupy 10th position after sliding down the standings following several disappointing results.

The Old Trafford outfit had been enjoying an impressive spell earlier in the campaign, recording victories over Liverpool, Brighton and Sunderland during a notable winning run. But draws against Tottenham and Nottingham Forest halted that momentum before the wheels came off entirely with a 1-0 defeat at Everton.

Despite Everton being reduced to 10 men in the 13th minute following Idrissa Gueye’s dismissal for an altercation with his own team-mate Michael Keane, United failed to exploit their numerical superiority and fell to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s 29th-minute strike.

Now, fifth-placed Palace present a fresh test, and United must perform at their highest level against last season’s FA Cup champions.

With the Red Devils concentrating solely on domestic competition, having failed to secure European qualification this season, Amorim requires his full squad to be available as he strives to propel the club up the standings.

Addressing the media before the Palace fixture, Amorim said: “They are a different club [to us] and they are doing things better than us so that is quite simple.

“We play in a different way and they are just doing things better than us. They are doing things really well and they play more in transition than us. We have to look at all of these things when we compare our teams but of course, in every position, we can do so much better.”

When asked about whether his side benefits from their absence of European commitments, the Portuguese manager added: “I said the same thing last year when we were in Europe and I say the same thing this year: there [is an] advantage and disadvantage of not being in Europe. There are no excuses. We have to always win games.”
