Man Utd ‘draw up three-man transfer shortlist’ after Carrick confirmed plan | Football | Sport
Manchester United have earmarked three players as potential summer signings ahead of what promises to be a crucial off-season for Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS. Top of the agenda for the United hierarchy will be finding a permanent replacement for Ruben Amorim, with Michael Carrick having taken interim charge at the beginning of the year.
Carrick has impressed since taking the reins, but whoever is in charge of the Red Devils, it’s gearing up to be another important season of transfer business for the club. From outgoings to incomings, there’s plenty of work United need to do on their current squad.
One player who has emerged as a potential signing, according to the Daily Mail, is Marcus Tavernier, who has impressed during his stint with Bournemouth. Following the departure of Antoine Semenyo, Tavernier has stepped up his performances for the Cherries, and across the entire campaign, Tavernier has grabbed six goals and five assists.
Bournemouth have established themselves as a selling club in recent years, with the suggestion that a fee in the region of £40million could tempt them into a sale. Tavernier is contracted until 2029 at the Vitality Stadium, meaning Bournemouth won’t be in any rush to cash in under his valuation.
Tavernier joins the likes of Morgan Gibbs-White and Yan Diomande on United’s transfer wishlist. Gibbs-White looked as if he was on the move last season when Manchester City and Tottenham registered an interest, but a move failed to materialise.
Given Nottingham Forest’s predicament towards the bottom of the table, it’s expected a transfer away from the City Ground could follow this summer. Meanwhile, Diomande is attracting attention from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, having dazzled in the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig.
When asked about the winger department, he said: “I think you’re always looking at the balance of the team and the squad to give you the utmost flexibility, so it’s definitely something to look at, for sure.”
Before adding: “Quite possibly,” when pushed for an answer on whether they’ll invest in that position this summer.
