A fire alert forced the evacuation of one of Britain’s biggest and busiest train stations. London Waterloo was briefly shut off to the public on a day of widespread issues across the London Underground. The incident comes on a day of widespread disruption on the London Underground, with multiple lines either closed or running reduced services due to planned engineering works.

Travellers have faced confusion and delays, particularly with no Jubilee line service running through Waterloo until 11am, and parts of the Circle, District, and Hammersmith & City lines shut for large parts of the day. The exact cause of the alert at Waterloo has not yet been confirmed, and there are delays to some National Rail services passing through the area.
