Lloyds explains 30-day rule over £50 bonus payments for customers | Personal Finance | Finance

One customer reached out to the bank as they were waiting for their third instalment to arrive in their account. They asked over social media: “Can I get some help with friend referral please? I referred 3 friends who all signed up using my link. Followed all the steps and all now have the current account. I have received the bonus for two of them but not the third.”

They wanted to know how they could check the progress for the third referral. Lloyds offers a scheme where you can be paid £50 for referring a friend to join the bank.

The way this works is you need to have an eligible current account, which can include any one other than an Under 19’s Account, Smart Start or Student Account. You then log into the mobile app and select ‘Share link with a friend’.

Your friend then has a 30-day window to join Lloyds and open a current account, by clicking the link you sent them. Once they have done this, both you and your friend will be paid a £50 bonus each.

You can refer as many people as you want but the maximum amount of bonuses you can claim is £250 each calendar year, the equivalent of five people.

Responding to the customer query, Lloyds said: “If the third friend used your link correctly and is a brand‑new Lloyds customer, the bonus should still come. If 30 working days have already passed, just message Lloyds through the in‑app chat or contact support, so they can check it for you.”

Another customer recently contacted Lloyds Bank about a previous bonus scheme. This was a £250 switch offer the group was paying out, if you switched over to a Club Lloyds account.

The deadline to get the bonus was February 3, as you needed to apply the account and apply for your switch by this date. However, some of the payments may not have gone out yet, as the amount will be paid up to 40 days after you completed all the necessaries.

One person asked: “I did a current account switch at the end of January. Your offer was for £250 for switching. When would I receive this for completing my switch?” They asked the bank to explain precisely what the qualifying rules were.

In response, Lloyds said: “To get the switch incentive you would have needed to have another account held elsewhere with three active direct debits to switch and open a new Club Lloyds account and haven’t received a switching offer since 1 January 2023.”
