Liverpool’s set-piece coach leaves club as statement released | Football | Sport
Liverpool have announced that set-piece specialist Aaron Briggs has left the club following mutual agreement. Briggs has departed Anfield as mounting scrutiny over the Reds’ dead-ball struggles this term threatens their Premier League title defence.
Arne Slot‘s squad have shipped 12 goals from set-pieces across 18 league fixtures this campaign whilst netting just three, leaving them with a dire minus-nine differential – their poorest record at this stage of any Premier League season.
Liverpool deemed intervention necessary in this department, with both parties reaching consensus on Briggs’ exit.
Nevertheless, it is understood that =the club and manager Slot are keen to stress that this coaching reshuffle shouldn’t be viewed as a “silver bullet” to remedy the problem, with collective efforts continuing to find a comprehensive solution.
Briggs, who became part of Slot’s backroom team during summer 2024, played a crucial behind-the-scenes role in helping the Reds secure a record-equalling 20th championship during the Dutchman’s maiden campaign last season.
The Reds confirmed in an official statement: “Liverpool FC can confirm Aaron Briggs has departed his role as set-piece coach of the men’s first team.
“Having joined the club in July 2024 – initially in the role of individual development coach – Briggs contributed to our Premier League title success last season as a member of Arne Slot’s backroom staff.
“He leaves with the appreciation and best wishes of everyone at the club.”
