Liverpool 2025 player ratings with two 4/10s as Szoboszlai outdoes Salah | Football | Sport

It’s been a rollercoaster year for reigning Premier League champions Liverpool, with a 20th league title followed by a tumultuous second season so far for Arne Slot. After losing just two league games before being crowned title winners in late April and four across the entire campaign, the Reds have already lost six of 18 top-flight outings in 2025-26. Express Sport rates every Liverpool player to have made a minimum of five appearances under the Dutch coach this year…

Liverpool 2025 player ratings

Alisson Becker – 8

His performance in the first-leg win at PSG was an all-timer and one of the best goalkeeping displays in the club’s history. His return of 11 clean sheets from 39 games is not at all reflective of his ability. The only blemish on his name is the fact he so consistently gets injured.

Giorgi Mamardashvili – 7

He only has three clean sheets from 10 games but there have been some brilliant saves to suggest Mamardashvili is a safe bet long term for Liverpool. He could do with improving his distribution from his feet though.

Conor Bradley – 6

Would probably be the starting right-back if not for his awful injury record. Has arguably hit higher heights for Northern Ireland than Liverpool in 2025 but offers the kind of offensive and defensive balance required in this current side.

Jeremie Frimpong – 6

Also heavily restricted by injuries, Frimpong has only managed 433 minutes for Liverpool so far. But in the recent wins over Tottenham and Wolves, the summer signing showed promising signs of the dangerous wide player he can be for Slot.

Virgil van Dijk – 8

The 11th man ever to captain Liverpool to a top-flight league title. Down from a 9 just because of a few instances this season where he could and should have done better when defending. Even still, he remains one of the best in the world and 2024-25 was superb from the Dutch skipper.

Ibrahima Konate – 4

He was great last season but the number of mistakes Konate has made in recent months means he has to be marked down significantly. It might be harsh but given his ability, the Frenchman was well, well below par and almost produced a howler per game.

Joe Gomez – 6

Dogged by injuries, this will surely be Gomez’s last season at Anfield. Twice in 2025, he has broken into the team only for an injury to thwart him. He has been dependable when fit though which sees him avoid a 5.

Milos Kerkez – 6

He started slowly, but was being asked to essentially act as a left-sided centre-back in a back three and that blunted his best attributes. Now being given the freedom to push forward, the Hungarian looks settled and is starting to show his best stuff.

Andy Robertson – 6

At the scene of a few too many crimes last season, Robertson has been better this season when not relied on to start every single match. But there’s still been a few lapses – like the late Chelsea winner he should have done better for. The definition of a Liverpool legend, though.

Wataru Endo – 5

Like Gomez, another whose time at Liverpool is coming to an end. He has barely played this season but did have a spell last season where he was useful coming off the bench to close out games. Endo has only started one Premier League game in the whole of 2025.

Dominik Szoboszlai – 9

What a player the Hungarian has become. Right now, he is Arne Slot‘s MVP. Five goals and five assists this term and another big highlight of the year came when he scored in last season’s season-defining win at Man City in February. He’s absolutely irreplaceable for Liverpool and does the running of two men in that midfield.

Ryan Gravenberch – 8

Absolutely crucial to Liverpool’s title triumph last season. The Dutchman has had more attacking freedom this season and has four goals and three assists in 21 games to show for it. Hasn’t quite hit the heights of Szoboszlai with a few games where his levels dropped but still a great year overall for Gravenberch.

Trey Nyoni – 5

Regularly in and around the team in domestic cup competitions but still has a lot of developing to do, especially physically, before he can fight for regular Premier League and Champions League appearances.

Alexis Mac Allister – 7

Another like Konate whose rating suffers from a significant drop in performance this season. Mac Allister’s season last year was a 9/10 – he was arguably the best midfielder in the league. But now he looks fatigued physically and mentally and is still seeking his best form over halfway through the campaign.

Curtis Jones – 7

One of the best performers in a struggling team right now, Jones has been one of few consistent performers of late for Slot and helps bring some much-needed midfield control. He has combined promisingly with Florian Wirtz in the last few matches.

Rio Ngumoha – 7

Given his age, gets marked up for that Newcastle winner alone. What a brilliant finish and what a moment. Will be hoping to build on that in 2026.

Florian Wirtz – 7

Wirtz, Liverpool’s second-most expensive signing of all time, has really started to settle recently. He clearly has the ability to become a massive player for Liverpool in the long term and his first goal in the win over Wolves is the ideal end to 2025 for the German. Would perhaps get more praise if more of the chances he had created were finished by his team-mates.

Federico Chiesa – 6

Chiesa probably has the best chant of any player in the squad and enjoyed a memorable moment with the late winner against Bournemouth at Anfield. But Slot clearly doesn’t trust him to play more than the final 15-20 minutes of games and he’ll likely leave in the summer. Gets a 6 for his work rate and his goal contributions despite limited game time.

Liverpool FC v Crystal Palace FC - Premier League

Cody Gakpo – 7

Gakpo has 16 goals and seven assists in this calendar year but the Dutchman is too frustrating a player to get any higher than a 7/10. Needs to work on mixing his game up so he’s not just cutting inside on his right every time. Defenders are figuring him out.

Mohamed Salah – 8

Last season was a 10/10 – Salah was obscene and actually deserved a Ballon d’Or he was that good. But the Egyptian’s 6/10 current campaign means his rating averages out to an 8. Even still, he’s got 19 goals and 10 assists in 2025 and remains the man for the pressure moments. He cannot be sold in January.

Hugo Ekitike – 8

Liverpool’s best summer signing by a distance. From 25 appearances, Ekitike has 11 goals and just looks the part. He gets fans off their seats. Most excitingly, he’s only 23 and still has a lot of improvement in him across all areas of his game.

Alexander Isak – 4

Harsh? Maybe. The Swede was unfortunate with his latest injury. But he also took far too long to get up to speed and two good goals against West Ham and Tottenham aside, Liverpool haven’t seen much return at all on their £125million investment. He’s under pressure to start next season strongly.

Diogo Jota – N/A

It feels crass to rate him on the pitch this year given what happened off it. What’s for certain, he will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, Diogo.

Players who have left

Caoimhin Kelleher – 6

Seven appearances in 2025 yielded three clean sheets including a derby day win over Everton and a Carabao Cup semi-final comeback against Tottenham. All the very best to the Irishman at Brentford.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 6

It was an unfortunate final few months at Anfield for Alexander-Arnold. Injury thwarted him against PSG when he was running the show. But goals against Aston Villa and Leicester were highlights before he ditched the Reds for Real Madrid.

Kostas Tsimikas – 5

Featured sporadically towards the end of the title-winning season due to Robertson’s inconsistency but never looked like the Scot’s long-term successor. Now on loan at Roma.

Jarell Quansah – 5

Perhaps underappreciated by Liverpool, who would now quite like to have Quansah in their squad despite the fact he barely played for Slot last season. Good to see him doing well at Bayer Leverkusen.

FBL-ENG-PR-LIVERPOOL-TOTTENHAM

Harvey Elliott – 6

Struggled for minutes under Slot but scored in three successive Champions League games, including the winner away at PSG, and ended the club’s joint-top scorer in the competition. Having a horrible time on loan at Aston Villa and will surely return in January.

Tyler Morton – 5

The minutes just weren’t there for him last year and his exit was best for the player’s development. The Englishman looks really impressive at Lyon. Perhaps one day he’ll return to Liverpool?

Luis Diaz – 7

Electric in the first half of last season, Diaz endured a lull through the winter months but then managed nine goal contributions in 11 appearances towards the end of the campaign including the equaliser in the title-clinching win over Tottenham. Now thriving in the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich.

Darwin Nunez – 5

The brace against Brentford in January was crucial for Liverpool but aside from that, goal contributions were few and far between for Nunez. His move to Al-Hilal was no surprise.
