Lidl update as ‘most’ stores to close for three days | UK | News
Lidl has announced most of its UK supermarkets will shut for three days in a few weeks’ time.
The budget retailer confirmed it wants to give workers an extended break, with all 980 outlets closing on Christmas Day, December 25.
The majority of stores will additionally close on Boxing Day, December 26, and New Year’s Day, January 1. All Lidl locations outside the M25 will be shut on New Year’s Day, while most branches outside London and Wales will close on Boxing Day.
Shoppers are urged to check specific opening hours through Lidl’s website store locator or the Lidl Plus app. Lidl joins a growing list of retailers giving employees three days off.
Aldi has confirmed all its UK outlets will close for three days during the festive season.
The supermarket chain said it will close on Christmas Day and will not reopen until Saturday, December 27, giving workers “the chance to spend time with friends and family”.
Aldi stores will likewise stay closed on New Year’s Day, reopening on Friday, January 2, 2026. Home Bargains will also close on Christmas Day, Thursday December 25, Boxing Day, Friday December 26, and New Year’s Day, Thursday, January 1.

“As a family-run business, we understand the importance of spending time with family and friends, particularly over the holidays. We’re proud to give our teams additional time off to enjoy the festive season.”
