LG rivals Samsung with a very smart new way to watch and stream TV

Samsung first started the trend of TVs that resemble pictures more than giant blank screens; now it seems LG wants a piece of the action. The Korean technology company has confirmed that it will showcase its all-new Gallery TVs at the CES technology show in Las Vegas next week, and they appear to be very similar to Samsung’s popular The Frame televisions. The concept is simple, with the screens appearing more like home accessories than giant and unsightly goggleboxes.

Thanks to access to a library of images, they can even show works of art on the display throughout the day and night. LG says that a library of over 4,500 monthly-refreshed works will be available, with owners able to pick and mix what they want shown on the screen.

Beyond that preset library, users can also customise things further by creating their own images with Generative AI or displaying memories from their own photo libraries. The TV will also automatically adjust picture quality to changing ambient light to maintain clarity throughout the day plus it comes with a specialised panel that reduces glare and minimises reflections. To allow users to curate and store their favourite content, the TV range offers 32GB of internal memory.

LG has confirmed that its Gallery TVs will be available in 55 and 65-inch sizes and will feature a slim, flush-mount design with customisable magnetic frames. They will be powered by the α (Alpha) 7 AI Processor and get MiniLED and pin-sharp 4K technology.

“We will continue to lead the market by expanding our lifestyle TV lineup, transforming the screen into a companion that fluidly adapts to our customers’ preferences,” said Park Hyoung-sei, president of the LG Media Entertainment Solution Company. “Our goal is to enrich customers’ lives by providing the freedom to design every aspect of their personal space.”

Samsung updated its The Frame range last year with the addition of a Pro model, which offers advanced Neo QLED technology and a wireless One Connect box in the packaging, which can beam content to the big screen without the need for cables.

It’s unclear if Samsung will refresh things again at CES, but there’s not long to find out. This yearly show gets underway on January 6 and Express.co.uk will be in Las Vegas to bring you all the latest tech news.
