King Charles ‘looking forward’ to welcoming Donald Trump to UK | Royal | News

King Charles is said to be “looking forward” to welcoming Donald Trump to the UK after major confusion. The 76-year-old has reportedly sent an official invitation, which is known as the Manu Regia, to the White House signalling that official planning for the visit has begun.

Speaking of a State Visit, a palace aide has said: “His Majesty has known President Trump for many years and looks forward to hosting him and the First Lady later this year.” Despite offical planning said to be underway, dates for the event have yet to be confirmed and will be announced when they are available.

As reported by GB News, logistical difficulties are said to have meant a private meeting between the King and US President was not possible ahead of a State Visit.

Today’s announcement follows a preliminary invitation given to President Trump in March by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer on behalf of King Charles.

The initial correspondence outlined ways in which a visit, or visits, could be arranged for Trump to travel to the UK.

Although confusion meant that a meeting prior to a visit could not be held, something that the King is said to have preferred, the visit is reportedly set to take place “later this year”.

The letter sent to the White House is said to have been hand-signed by the King, GB News reports.

The first correspondence between Trump and the King delivered in person by Prime Minister Keir Starmer during a White House press conference in February.

After reading the letter, Trump declared: “They’re going to do a second fest… that’s what it is: a fest, and it’s beautiful, and it’s the first time it’s ever happened to one person.”

Praising the King and William, the heir to the throne, he added: “It’s an honour… I’m a friend of Charles, I have great respect for King Charles and the family, William, we have really just a great respect for the family.”
