Jurgen Klopp dismisses Real Madrid rumours as Liverpool return confirmed | Football | Sport

Ex-Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has hinted that a comeback to football management might be possible in the future, despite asserting he has no intentions of returning to the touchline. Klopp left his post at Anfield in the summer of 2024 after nearly nine years at the helm of the Reds.

Klopp was succeeded by Arne Slot at Liverpool, who clinched the Premier League title in his first season on Merseyside.

Since departing Liverpool, Klopp has assumed the position of global head of football with Red Bull. His role encompasses all of the Red Bull club network, including RB Leipzig, Red Bull Salzburg and the New York Red Bulls, among others.

Nonetheless, Klopp has been persistently linked with a managerial return, with recent speculation indicating that the Real Madrid job could be a possibility for the 58-year-old.

However, Klopp has dismissed the ‘nonsense’ rumours regarding a potential move to the Santiago Bernabeu, reports the Liverpool Echo.

“If Real Madrid had called, we would have heard about it by now,” Klopp told reporters at the Magenta TV World Cup team presentation being held in Munich. “But that’s all nonsense. They didn’t even call, not once. They didn’t even call my agent.”

He added: “I’ve said that a thousand times already, but of course I’m not thinking about it at all right now. There’s no reason to, thankfully.

“And as for the future, I’m not quite finished as a coach yet. So who knows what might come up in the next few years. But there are absolutely no plans in that regard.”

In recent weeks, there has been speculation about Klopp’s future at Red Bull and whether an exit might be imminent, despite the former Liverpool manager only taking up the post in January last year.

However, Klopp dismissed such rumours. “The same idiots wrote that,” Klopp stated. “The less someone knows about football, the more they think: I should be at the various locations even more often than I am.

“The colleague from the ‘Salzburger Nachrichten’ who wrote that has absolutely no clue. I’m not thinking of throwing in the towel.”

Klopp’s remarks come just days before he is set to return to the dugout for Liverpool’s charity match at Anfield this weekend.

The ex-Reds boss will join Sir Kenny Dalglish’s coaching team as Liverpool Legends take on another of his former clubs, Borussia Dortmund, in a charity match on Merseyside on Saturday afternoon.
