Jet2 will launch new routes for summer 2026 to a tranquil Greek island known for its wine-making and offering a quieter alternative to many of its Mediterranean counterparts.

The airline will connect the island of Samos with Birmingham, London Stansted, and Manchester this summer. Previously, TUI has been the only operator of UK flights to Samos, running a seasonal service from London Gatwick. From summer 2026, Jet2 will operate twice-weekly departures from London Stansted running from May 7 through to October 29, a Monday service from Birmingham operating between May 4 and October 26, and twice-weekly flights from Manchester from May 5 until October 30. The flight time to the island is approximately four hours.

Despite being Greek territory, Samos sits remarkably close to Turkey, divided from the mainland by the narrow Mycale Strait, measuring just one mile across. Surrounded by the crystal-clear Aegean Sea, Samos features an array of stunning beaches that typically remain less crowded than those found on neighbouring islands like Mykonos and Kos.

One possible explanation for Samos’s relative obscurity is that several of its most picturesque beaches are shingle rather than sand. Tsamadou Beach ranks among the island’s finest, offering a cove of deep turquoise waters encircled by lush green mountains blanketed in pine forests.

Though its shoreline is made up of white pebbles, it rivals any sandy beach in beauty, and sunbeds are available for hire if you’d prefer not to lie directly on the shingle. Provided you’re happy to bring along some flip-flops, you’ll discover uncrowded, peaceful stretches of coastline.

Kokkari Beach is another favoured destination, stretching along the island’s northern coast near a fishing village steeped in authentic Greek character. Its crystalline, blue waters are ideal for swimming, while space beneath olive trees provides the perfect spot to relax in the shade.

Venture into the village of Kokkari itself and you’ll discover charming Greek homes nestled amongst narrow lanes, traditional tavernas, and seaside restaurants offering spectacular sunset views come evening. The town of Pythagoreio is also a must-visit.

Named in honour of the mathematician and philosopher Pythagoras, a native of Samos, it’s brimming with historical treasures including a 6th-century aqueduct and the clifftop Monastery of Panagia Spiliani, which offers stunning panoramic views over the town.

This sun-kissed island is blanketed with vineyards, with its most celebrated export being sweet dessert wines crafted from local Muscat grapes. Wine tours can be arranged, or you can visit establishments such as Vakakis in the island’s north.

Stroll through the verdant vineyards before embarking on a tour to witness the wine-making process firsthand. A visit to Vakakis typically concludes with a tasting session in their rustic stone bar, complemented by local olives and nibbles.

Discussing the newly announced routes, Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, said: “After experiencing consistent demand from holidaymakers wanting to explore Greece, we are confident that these new flights and holidays will prove popular with customers looking for an off the beaten track style holiday. We look forward to taking customers to Samos on their well-deserved holidays and showcasing our VIP customer service.”
