Jeremy Clarkson says he should be leader of Iran and shares link to country | World | News
Former Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson has claimed Iran should have made him their new Supreme Leader — and he revealed his surprise link to the country where people supposedly adore him.
Jeremy, 65, was reacting to the news that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was replaced by his own son after being killed in US-Israeli airstrikes. But Jezza said new boss Mojtaba Khamenei, who reportedly also lost his mother, wife and a son in the attacks, is “apparently just as mad” as his old man was.
With that in mind, motoring journalist Jeremy believes US President Donald Trump waging war on Iran is “pointless”.
He claimed Iranian people needed a plausible alternative before he made a humorous argument of why he should have been put in charge.
Writing in his latest Sunday Times column, he said: “They need someone who’s universally loved over there and the only person I can think of is me. Before the internet was shut down, I used to get loads of fan mail from Iran.
“More than from any other country, in fact. Plus, I’ve just checked my birth certificate and it seems I’m a Methodist, which is about as neutral as you can get. I also don’t know how to make a nuclear bomb. So I could be just what’s needed.”
He reiterated that the new Supreme Leader, who Trump claimed may even be dead, was the “same as the old boss” and that the whole operation was therefore futile.
Jeremy argued that the Blitz did not lead to east Londoners hanging swastikas outside their homes — and he said Hamas was still in charge of Gaza, despite it being “completely flattened”.
Mojtaba meanwhile is 56 and he has kept a low profile and has chosen never to give public speeches or interviews — nor has he ever held government office.
However, in documents published by WikiLeaks, he was once described as the “power behind the robes” and a “capable and forceful” figure behind the scenes.
Many expect him to be just as strict as his infamous father and Israel’s defence minister previously said that whoever took over from Ali Khamenei would be “an unequivocal target for elimination”.
Jeremy meanwhile said he “cannot believe Trump didn’t see this coming” regarding who the new leader was going to be.
And signing off his column, he asked: “Who was Trump expecting to take over? Nick Clegg?”
