Jadon Sancho discovers ‘condition for return’ as Man Utd exit nears | Football | Sport
Jadon Sancho will be required to accept a substantial salary reduction if he’s to secure another spell at Borussia Dortmund when his Manchester United contract expires, according to reports. His fellow England international Marcus Rashford has already demonstrated how he can revitalise his career beyond Old Trafford.
Sancho has struggled to justify the expectations surrounding him since his arrival from Dortmund in 2021. Following his return to the Bundesliga side on loan, Sancho has spent the past two seasons on temporary spells at Chelsea and Aston Villa.
His switch to Stamford Bridge resulted in 41 appearances across all competitions, though the Blues declined to secure him permanently, paying a £5m penalty to avoid the £25m obligation. At Villa, Sancho has featured regularly under Unai Emery, although the Midlands club have no purchase option or obligation included in the arrangement.
Nevertheless, they will be positioned to acquire him as a free agent at the season’s conclusion. United presently hold the option to prolong his contract by an additional year.
The report indicates that the winger will need to accept reduced wages if he is to secure another period in Germany. Sancho’s Old Trafford contract is believed to be worth approximately £300,000 per week.
Dortmund head coach Niko Kovac has reportedly chosen to abandon the 3-4-2-1 system he’s utilised this season. The report indicates that he has now authorised the club to secure Sancho’s return.
This follows reports from Spain suggesting that Marcus Rashford would also need to accept a salary reduction to finalise a permanent transfer from United to Barcelona. The Spanish giants possess the option to convert the forward’s loan into a permanent deal for £26million at the season’s conclusion.
Mundo Deportivo have reported that the club intend to settle the fee through three instalments, with a three-year contract already agreed with the England international. SPORT claimed that the La Liga outfit managed to successfully negotiate a substantial wage decrease with Rashford to enable the transfer alongside the league’s salary restrictions.
Barcelona are not believed to be hurrying to complete the deal for Rashford, with them eager to evaluate how the 28-year-old performs between now and the campaign’s end. The forward has netted 10 goals and provided 13 assists across 38 appearances.
