An intrepid traveller who has visited almost 100 countries claims one city in Europe is one of the best in the world. The city in question has flights from multiple airports in the UK available for £30 or less.

Gdansk, in Poland, is not somewhere many explorers might choose as one of their top cities worldwide, but it certainly made an impression on Gabriel Morris, who boast 613,00 subscribers on his YouTube channel Gabriel Traveler.

He was wowed by the architecture, history and markets. But Gabriel reckons the city of almost 500,000 people, making it Poland’s sixth biggest city, would be even more impressive if he visited it with the sun shining.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, he described the city, which is around two hours by plane from the UK. He called it “mind-blowing”. Gabriel said: “I’m really glad I decided to make the trip up to Gdansk. Gdansk is mind-blowing. This is one of the most amazing cities I’ve been to, absolutely.

“Hopefully you’re getting the idea that this is a truly remarkable city with so much history. There is so much of the city to see. I had no idea Gdansk was going to be this phenomenal.

“It really is one of the most incredible cities in Europe, it’s so unique. Its style of architecture, all the different parts of the city which I’ve barely dipped a toe into.”

A whole host of UK airports operate direct flights to Gdansk, including London Stansted, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Leeds Bradford and Edinburgh.

The cheapest flights available in March though are £26 from Aberdeen Airport with budget airline Wizz Air.

Gabriel, who previously named Greece as his favourite country in the world, reckons visitors will get an even better impression of Gdansk if they visited during warmer weather. It was -1C in the city, which is in the north of Poland near the Baltic Sea.

He said: “You’re also getting a less than ideal view of the city. Not just with the snow but the lighting is the main thing, this grey, overcast, definitely doesn’t result in the best conditions for filming and exploring.

“This is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe without a doubt. Really nice scene here. There’s a market that’s really pretty.

“Gdansk is really something else. Absolutely incredible. I had no ideas Gdansk was going to be this phenomenal. It really is one of the most incredible cities in Europe.”

If people fancying travelling to Gdnask in the summer, average daytime highs reach a very pleasant 25C.

The city possesses a number of historical monuments and was the site of one of the first events of World War Two on September 1, 1939. It received 4.5 million tourists in 2024.
