I’ve travelled world for BBC – one of my favourite countries is on doorstep | UK | Travel

A BBC film producer has named one of his favourite places to visit after touring the world with the likes of Sir David Attenborough. Chadden Hunter claimed a country just on our doorsteps is at the top of his list of his best countries. Speaking with the Daily Express, the producer said Scotland has always stood out to him as something of a “gem”.

He explained: “On our doorstep in the UK, I think Scotland is underappreciated. I mean, it blows my mind when you look at a population map of the British Isles, it always blows my mind how dense England is, and especially southern England, and how unbelieveably empty Scotland is.”

“And yet, up there, there’s, stunning wildlife, you can go on boat tours, and see orcas and basking sharks. On some of the beaches, the water is as crystal clear as anything you get in the tropics.”

Shedding more light on exactly what separates Scotland from most of the other destinations he has visited, he continued: “It’s chilly to get in (the water), but it is beautiful, and then you’ve got in some areas, you’ve got nesting puffins, you’ve got otters, seal colonies.”

“So I think it’s just one of those places that I think we often overlook to go further afield, but unless you’re going to get down to the plains of Southern Africa, of Eastern Africa, then Scotland’s a bit of gem on our doorstep.”

After originally doing his PhD on monkeys in Ethiopia, he crossed paths with a BBC film crew during his visit in the African country. Little to his knowledge at the time, the chance meeting would mark the first step in what would become a long association with the broadcaster.

In the over two-and-a-half decades since then, he has worked alongside Sir David Attenborough as a producer on some of the channel’s most popular nature programmes including the likes of Planet Earth One and Two, Seven Worlds One Planet, Frozen Planet.

Chadden isn’t the first avid explorer to have shared their favourite destination in recent weeks. One globe-trotter who’s travelled to 90 countries says the only one she would return to is just three hours from the UK
