For most of us, holiday flights involve piling into an economy class seat. Enjoying the benefits on offer upfront in Business remains an unaffordable dream. 

But not all business class seats are created equal. Seasoned traveller Alesandra Dubin says she’s tried out the business class offerings from six of the leading airlines – and she’s picked out one that stands out from all the others.

Writing in Business Insider, she praised the service business class travellers can expect from Fiji Airways: “Flight attendants were attentive from the start, offering pre-flight drinks and warm towels, and there was even complimentary WiFi, a rare perk.”

After a delicious vegetarian meal, Alesandra managed to achieve something that’s very rare on an international flight; seven hours of uninterrupted sleep.

That was down largely, she says, to the Airbus A350’s super-comfy fold-flat seats. She continued: “The seat, with direct aisle access, a 17-inch screen, ample storage, and lie-flat recline, was super comfortable.”

Alesandra added: “I also appreciated that I could watch external cameras showing the plane’s landing gear in action from the screen on my seat-back.”

She concluded that while she has only tried Fiji Airways’ business-class service once, she’d happily fly with them again.

UK readers might be glad to hear that the travel expert also held international carrier British Airways in high regards.

She praised the “exceptional” meals, and said the drinks were another standout: “The wine selection was well-curated, and I opted for a glass of delicious port with my cheese plate.”

While the wifi wasn’t free in BA’s case, she felt the £20 in-flight internet connection was “fairly priced.”

Rivals Virgin Atlantic also came in for an honourable mention, losing out only because, in Alesandra’s experience, the food was “a bit less plentiful” than she would have liked for a 10-hour flight and the 22-inch seat seemed a little cramped and fiddly to adjust.

She did concede, though, that the provision of a bar area meant that it was a great option for large groups travelling together.

For internal flights, the US-based travel expert said, there was really only one choice. She said: “If you ask me, there’s no superior US airline to Delta, and the competition doesn’t even come close.”

She says that while Delta One is listed as the airline’s business-class product, it’s closer to an outright first-class service, offering an enclosed mini-cabin that gives the traveller complete privacy. 

There’s also complimentary wifi included, as well as super-comfortable lie-flat seats that – while a shade narrower than the Virgin equivalent – are much easier to operate.

After being whisked directly from her plane to a connecting flight in a Porsche, Alesandra said that Delta made her feel like such a VIP that it’s now always her number one choice.
