Iran on the brink as ‘gunshots heard’ and ‘armed rebels storm Ayatollah’s home’ | World | News
Rebel fighters have reportedly stormed Ayatollah Khamenei’s headquarters in Tehran, in the first armed assault on the despot’s rule.
More than 250 Mojahedin were involved in a series of heavy clashes with Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) around Khamenei’s headquarters on Monday, according to reports from the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).
More than 100 Mojahedin fighters were killed or arrested, together with an unknown number of IRGC. IRGC fatalities were described as “heavy” by sources close to the MEK.
The assault comes on the back of continued demonstrations against the fascist theocracy ruling Iran. Despite the regime slaughtering an estimated 30,000 to 40,000 of its own citizens amid recent peaceful street uprisings, students at several universities continue to risk their lives by protesting against the regime and demanding democracy.

The news is extremely difficult to verify because of the regime’s continued restriction of the internet, but if accurate this level of armed insurrection is a major new development.
It may be no coincidence the reported assault comes just ahead of what experts believe will be a fresh wave of US airstrikes in a matter of days. President Trump has stationed a fearsome armada of massive firepower just off the coast of Iran. He is threatening war if Khamenei does not end his nuclear ambitions. Trump wrote on Truth Social a war with Iran “will be easily won.”
Khamenei’s headquarters are located at the Motahari Complex which is protected by 8,000 IRGC soldiers. It also contains the office and residence of the Ayatollah’s son Mojtaba Khamenei, the central office of the judiciary, the central office of the Intelligence Minister, and the Supreme National Security Council.
Security cameras were disabled with inside help.
It is unknown what weapons were used but the regime-affiliated Momtaz News website reported explosions saying: “A few minutes ago, several users reported hearing the sound of explosions in Tehran.” Subsequently, Arya News Agency reported simultaneous attacks on Khamenei’s residence and the Supreme National Security Council in the Pasteur district of Tehran.
It was reported many families in Tehran provided shelter to wounded Mojahedin fighters who were unable to use medical facilities as IRGC gunmen have fired on hospitals in recent days.
The assault has triggered brutal retaliation from the Regime with surveillance operations, pursuit, and arrests are continuing across various parts of Tehran and surrounding cities.
Eyewitnesses report seeing regime anti-riot vehicles equipped with machine guns and at least three low-flying helicopters over the Pasteur area around Khamenei’s headquarters.

The IRGC’s own “Bultan News” wrote: “The repeated sounds of explosions last night in the Pasteur Street area, the most secure district of the capital, have raised a serious question among all officials and those concerned about the system.
“What has happened to us that the enemy now covets the heart of Tehran and dares to reach out toward it?
“This question is not the question of an external critic; it is a cry of pain from within, a cry asking which one of you gentlemen has asked yourselves where the root of this enemy’s audacity lies? Is it not true that it comes from ourselves, that what has befallen us is of our own making?
“Under such circumstances, none of us has the right to pass even a single night in comfort — let alone allow the enemy to dare, in the most sensitive point of the capital, Pasteur Street, to carry out explosions and gunfire and challenge our devoted forces.”
The entire perimeter around Khamenei’s headquarters is surrounded by prefabricated reinforced-concrete walls more than four meters high, topped with metal anti-drone and anti-projectile barriers. Within the Motahari Complex, each building has its own enclosed perimeter wall.
Nearly 8,000 personnel from various military and intelligence units are responsible for protecting Khamenei’s headquarters and the Motahari Complex. Overall command is held by IRGC Brigadier General Hassan Mashrou’i-Far, known as Emami.
