‘I’m a travel expert, and here’s how to beat the heat while on holiday | Travel News | Travel

A travel expert has shared his hacks for beating the heat while on holiday abroad. Will Sarson, a travel expert at cruise and tour operator Riviera Travel, has revealed how travellers can cope during a heatwave.

With multiple heatwaves already hitting the UK and Europe this summer, preparing for one on your holiday might save you some grief. Sarson said: “Drastic  climate change, particularly during a heatwave, can quickly turn the sun-soaked destination into an exhausting experience. High temperatures are not uncommon during the summer months, and with global temperatures set to rise, these weather events could be the “new normal”. Fortunately, there are ways to enjoy your holiday even in blistering heat.”

Sarson told tourists going to places dealing with a heatwave to do one thing: prepare and adjust their itinerary for the hot weather.

He said: “We can’t control the weather, but it’s important to always be mindful of it when travelling. For example, curate your itinerary to give you plenty of time to explore each stop at your own pace.

“When it’s hot, you can take it slow and still see everything; there’s no need to overexert yourself or rush. Follow these techniques on your holiday to ensure you’re well-rested, hydrated, and safe during a heatwave.”

The expert added that you should “tailor your holiday to the heat”. Be sure to pack the essentials, like a water bottle and sun cream, and regularly pause in a shaded spot to prevent heat exhaustion.

Another of his top tips is to bring a refillable water bottle. This is good to have on hand in case you stumble upon a refilling station or venture into the many European cities with drinking fountains scattered throughout.

Sarson added to make use of air conditioning if your accommodation has it. This will keep the room’s temperature regulated and improve air quality for enhanced comfort, so you can rest easier.
