When you’re going on holiday someplace far away, there’s a lot to consider. Booking the flights, packing the luggage and organising the plans can take up a lot of time, so there’s other things that might not take priority – such as the clothes you actually wear on your journey.

If your flight is a long-haul one, chances are you’ll just want something comfortable to wear. However, a flight attendant has issued a warning about one item of clothing she would ‘never ever’ wear on a plane. TikToker Cher Dallas has shared plenty of industry secrets over the years, and her advice could come in handy if you’re flying anytime soon.

She says that planes can be surprisingly filthy in ways passengers don’t usually notice, but staff members do. In a TikTok video, Cher broke down the everyday outfits she tends to avoid because of what they can come into contact with on board.

Unsurprisingly, the number one thing she would not recommend wearing on a plane is a one-piece or a playsuit. She called it a “double no-no” and insisted: “I would never, never, never wear a romper.”

She said: “Going to the bathroom, that thing is going to end up on the floor, which is soaked with pee and doesn’t get mopped very often.”

In the same vein, she also said she’d never wear shorts. Cher explained: “The amount of times that dirty diapers get changed on the seats is astonishing. Not to mention people vomit, people are dirty themselves and are sitting in the seats.”

When it comes to footwear, it might be tempting to wear sandals or sliders when you’re going someplace hot, but this should be avoided at all costs.

The expert continued: “The carpet on the plane is filthy dirty. People vomit on it, people have pets on it, people rub their bare feet on it. I would not want my toes anywhere near an open exposure to that.”

What should you wear on a plane?

To avoid potentially getting ill or being uncomfortable on a plane, it’s best to choose soft, roomy and breathable fabrics that you can layer up, according to the clothing experts at Marks and Spencer.

Stretchy fabrics are ideal as they’re very easy to move in, meaning you don’t feel confined. Leggings and a t-shirt, as well as a comfortable overshirt or jumper, is a good option – you’ll be warm enough if the flight is chilly, and won’t overheat when you reach your destination either.
