Igor Tudor in frosty interview after Tottenham’s Liverpool draw – ‘You don’t have sense’ | Football | Sport

Igor Tudor gave a very frosty post-match interview to Sky Sports despite Tottenham snatching a late draw away at Liverpool. Spurs secured their first point under the interim manager away at Anfield as they fight to avoid the nightmare prospect of relegation from the Premier League. Richarlison scored a stoppage-time equaliser to cancel out Dominik Szoboszlai’s first-half free-kick and the visitors were good value for the draw. The result moves them a point clear of Nottingham Forest, who they play next in the league, and West Ham.

Despite the positivity of a precious point, Tudor was hostile towards interviewer Patrick Davison in a tense exchange. The 47-year-old was expected to be sacked after only five games in charge if Spurs lost on Merseyside but appears to have bought himself extra time to save the north London club from the drop. And he was grilled about whether he can save the club from a humiliating relegation as their 12-match winless streak continued despite a valuable draw.

Davison asked: “Just tell us, you did an interview I think it was on Friday, where you were asked about your position and you said: ‘People want a new manager because they want the hope of a new manager.'”

Tudor replied: “I was talking generally. This is the everywhere situation, in every club in the world when the results are not good. Changing coach gives you hope but the problems stay always. The problems need to be resolved. You can change the coaches but you need to resolve the problems or you don’t move nothing.”

Quizzed on if he has now proven he can give Spurs hope, Tudor said: “It’s enough with this. I always tell you what I think. Which questions need to be answered? I’m the coach. You need to ask me about how we play. You have and I answered you. These questions journalists like to ask about, it’s a question that doesn’t have sense.

“You ask the coach about his position. You don’t have any sense. All the coaches are always telling you the same things but you always insist. You say ‘Coach you need to answer’ because he’s obliged to come to the press conference, otherwise he’d like to stay at home. You insist always with the same questions.”

When Davison again tried to bring up the comments Tudor made before the game, the Croatian hit back: “No I didn’t say that. I didn’t. What did I say? What are you asking me now? What do I need to tell you now? Are we finished or not? OK, thank you.”

Despite the awkward interaction with the caretaker coach, Tottenham leave Anfield buoyant. And defender Pedro Porro insists the squad are confident they can stay up. He said: “We always believe. I always say this, I said before the game to my team-mates I believe in us.

“In this moment, you need everyone and today we had a good game. The most important thing now is to take the point, the positives and keep going into the Champions League and Premier League.”

While goalscorer Richarlison chimed in: “It’s a big point, we now stay focused for next week and we have the Champions League in midweek, but the focus now is on the importance of the Premier League.”

Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane praised the fight Spurs showed at Liverpool. He said: “Spurs dug deep. People have been poking fun at Spurs the last few months, but today they showed that fighting spirit. It was ugly somtimes, they went direct, the goal came from direct play. It was unlike Tottenham.

“They showed spirit, fight and quality at the right time. To go a goal down, I thought we’d find out about these lads today. You have to give them credit. They deserved it. Towards the end Liverpool had one or two chances but Tottenham could have gone on to win it. For Tottenham to take a point, it will lift everyone.”
