‘I couldn’t believe what Victoria Beckham did at party with David’ | Football | Sport
Victoria Beckham made an unforgettable impact at a birthday party shortly after her husband’s blockbuster move to LA Galaxy. David Beckham sent shockwaves through the football world when he joined the Galaxy back in 2007.
The ex-England skipper made the surprise switch from Real Madrid to Major League Soccer, signing a five-year contract. Beckham’s landmark transfer paved the way for fellow Three Lions legends Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Wayne Rooney, among other big names, to follow suit and head across the Atlantic towards the end of their careers. The Beckhams relocated to Los Angeles, merging sporting dreams with the world of celebrity. While David found it tough to achieve instant success with his new club, Victoria became an instant hit off the field.
A glimpse into how Victoria threw herself into the family’s American adventure emerged from the son of ex-Galaxy striker Carlos Pavon. The Honduran forward was with the Galaxy throughout David’s debut season and his son Carlos Pavon Jr fondly remembered spending time with the Beckham clan, particularly recalling Victoria’s actions at a birthday party for one of her boys.
“I was playing with [Beckham’s] son on the inflatable trampoline and we were jumping, and then out of nowhere, I notice the kid’s mum comes in, David’s wife, Victoria,” Pavon Jr revealed to the La Pelota Al DIEZ podcast as he looked back on the birthday party, which took place in a park.
“She started jumping with us and I was like, ‘I can’t believe I’m doing this with Victoria Beckham,’ so I think that was the funniest thing. Everybody saw when she came in and started jumping with us, so when I came out, I think they all saw my surprised face, like, ‘Wow, that just happened.’ It was really funny.”
Pavon Snr’s footballing journey took him across Mexico, Spain, Italy, Colombia and his native Honduras, whom he also represented at the 2010 World Cup. Yet for Pavon Jr, his family’s short stint in Los Angeles seemed like something straight out of a film.
“It was incredible. I was 12 years old, so I was a bit between my childhood and my adolescence, but I remember very well and it was so different,” he recalled. “I really felt that, I felt that it had nothing to do with Italy, with Mexico, with Honduras.
“There I felt like we were literally in Hollywood, the people we interacted with, the cars, the food, the house, everything was like another level, from the moment we arrived to the moment we left and well, the presence of David Beckham also had a big influence on that.
“I followed him, I played FIFA with him and all that, so seeing him in person and interacting with him and his family was almost like a dream, like it wasn’t real.”
David finally enjoyed success with the Galaxy a few years after Pavon had left the club. The former Manchester United star led the team to back-to-back MLS Cups in 2011 and 2012.
In the meantime, Victoria, who has recently been the subject of a Netflix documentary, launched her fashion brand a year after their move to the States. The ex-Spice Girl received plaudits for her work as a fashion designer as the Beckhams adjusted to life across the pond.
David continues to leave his mark on the MLS as co-owner of Inter Miami. The team has garnered global attention through the signing of Lionel Messi in 2023 and have clinched the Leagues Cup and Supporters’ Shield during the Argentine legend’s tenure at the club.
