Huge boost for Badenoch as voters deliver verdict on Jenrick | Politics | News
Kemi Badenoch’s decisive sacking of Robert Jenrick has received resounding support from Daily Express readers. We asked you if you thought the Conservative Party leader made the right decision and our poll results show the vast majority back her move.
In total, 2,496 readers responded to the poll published soon after Mrs Badenoch kicked Mr Jenrick off the Tory frontbench and suspended his party membership on Thursday (January 15). An impressive 1,635 of those who delivered their verdict said the Tory leader was right. This was more than double the number of readers who said Mrs Badenoch was wrong. This group totalled 760 while 101 readers said they were not sure, according to the Express poll.
The sacking and subsequent defection to Reform UK by Mr Jenrick prompted mixed opinions among readers who added their views to the poll.
A reader commenting under the name “SetonDuring” said: “Mrs Badenoch should be thanked for this tough and right expulsion.”
Fellow reader, “Corona”, disagreed, commenting: “Bad move by Badenoch, but I can understand why she did it. She doesn’t want to be deposed as leader.”
To which a third reader writing under the name “Susandenham” replied: “He left her with absolutely no choice. Having someone working to bring the party down in any way they could deserves getting rid of. His actions were indefensible.”
The same reader said Mr Jenrick was a leadership rival ever since Mrs Badenoch won the official race to be Tory leader.
They added: “He was a rival then and she succeeded and he did not, sounds like the resentment started right there. It was the right move and she stole his thunder.”
Despite the criticism, Mr Jenrick received some support from Express readers. One reader, commenting under the name “aspidistra”, wrote: “Jenrick did us all a favour in exposing how Labour and the Tories have been doing a double act in stitching up the British public.”
Fellow reader “toomanymutts” said: “Badenoch is yet another one who does not give a damn about the ongoing illegal migration disaster. Jenrick does.”
Another, “zigijedi”, wrote: “Kemi probably had no choice. But Jenrick was propping up her dying party and his defection heralds a realignment of politics.”
To which reader, “Oldie”, replied: “Utter rubbish. She is about the only hope they have. I am 80 and now neutral in politics always having been a centrist. I think she is about the most honest and decent person in politics today.”
