Horror fans hail ‘disturbing’ film with Harry Potter star | Films | Entertainment

Horror enthusiasts are only just discovering a “very underrated” film starring a familiar face from the Harry Potter series, now available to stream for free.

Daniel Radcliffe, famed for his portrayal of the iconic boy wizard Harry Potter, takes a dark turn in the horror flick Horns, hailed by aficionados as an “underdog movie”. In this chilling tale, Daniel embodies Ig Perrish, a man accused of murdering his girlfriend.

A bizarre twist sees him waking with horns sprouting from his head and newfound powers, propelling him on a quest to unearth the true killer. The 2014 release, helmed by Alexandre Aja, was met with mixed reviews upon its debut.

The cast also includes pop sensation Sabrina Carpenter as the 13-year-old Merrin Williams, with Juno Temple playing the character as an adult. Max Minghella portrays Lee Tourneau, reports the Manchester Evening News.

IMDB offers a glimpse into the plot: “After Iggy’s long-time girlfriend is murdered and the whole town agrees he is the killer, he awakens one morning with horns and the townspeople soon confess their sins. Once knowing the sins of the people, he is facing the true killer of his beloved girlfriend.

Pluto TV has now added this horror-comedy to its roster, available to stream at no cost. Viewers can dive into the “brilliant” narrative starting today (July 14).

Despite its mixed reception, Horns has captivated a loyal audience, earning accolades for its depth and originality. One viewer recommended: “Wow give this a chance, it’s really good, just take some time to understand it, very underrated.”

Another praised the film, sharing: “This was an underdog movie. It had aspects of horror, fantasy, and drama. The psychological suspense really brings this film into a different category. Very good movie.”

A third added: “I don’t understand the low critic and audience ratings for this film. It’s genuinely a brilliant story cleverly adapted from the novel and succeeds in taking the viewer through a disturbing emotional journey with a fantastic finale! An absolutely original and exciting film with a great performance from Daniel Radcliffe, believe it or not.”

A fourth penned: “Much better than the critics would have you believe. Solid and entertaining.”

Horns, based on the 2010 novel by Joe Hill, intricately weaves elements of guilt, revenge, and transformation in its storyline.

The book and now the film version have gathered a firm following, described as “dark and mysterious” by fans. One person added: “Wow, I’ve watched a lot of movies in my 69 years on this planet lol I have to tell you I was glued to my seat watching this movie.”

Horns is available to stream on Pluto TV from July 14.
