Horror as 7 month old baby girl shot dead in her pushchair as ‘killer’ pictured | World | News

A seven-month-old baby girl was shot and killed while sitting in her pushchair in a broad daylight attack in New York City, police said. A disturbing image of the alleged shooter has been released as officers confirm they have a man matching the gunman’s description in custody in connection with an unrelated investigation.

A manhunt remains ongoing for a second suspect sought in relation to the incident. The child, named as Kaori Patterson-Moore, was being pushed in her buggy by her mother when shots rang out in the East Williamsburg neighbourhood at approximately 1pm local time on Wednesday.

Members of the public scrambled for safety, including the baby’s mother, father and two-year-old brother, who all took refuge in a nearby bodega.

Tragically, it was there that the mother discovered Kaori had been struck in what police believe to be a gang-related shooting, according to CBS.

CCTV footage from inside the bodega, published by the New York Post, captured the harrowing moment the mother realised her baby had been hit, becoming hysterical and jumping up and down while appearing to scream.

The child was rushed to the nearby Woodhull Hospital, where she was sadly pronounced dead.

New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch told a press conference that “at least two rounds” were fired by a man riding pillion on a motorbike, which was being driven by another man against the flow of traffic at Humboldt and Moore streets.

The motorbike subsequently crashed, and the suspected gunman was detained, she added, though a “massive” manhunt for the driver remains ongoing.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani spoke out following the tragedy, saying: “A life that had barely begun was taken in an instant. Today is a devastating reminder of how much more work there is to be done to combat gun violence across this city.”

Video footage captured the suspects being struck by a vehicle as they attempted to flee, with both men thrown from the moped. The rear passenger hit the ground with such force that he lost “both of his shoes”, Tisch said.

He was transported to Brooklyn Hospital following the arrival of an ambulance, where he was subsequently taken into police custody.

Officers believe the man matches the description of the shooter, however he was detained as part of an entirely separate investigation. The NYPD are now working to establish a connection between him and the shooting.
