‘Hell will freeze over before this royal couple forgive Prince Harry’, expert claims | Royal | News
Prince Harry and King Charles may be on their way to making amends, but one expert believes that there is one senior couple in the monarchy that will never “forgive” the prince. Since quitting life with his wife Meghan Markle in 2020, it is no secret that Harry, 40, has experienced rifts with his royal relatives, especially after his bombshell memoir Spare.
It is believed the Duke of Sussex’s biggest rifts are with his now estranged brother Prince William, 43, and his father King Charles, 76. However, things may now be taking a turn, with the Tobyn Andreae, the King’s communications secretary, and two members of staff from Harry and Meghan Markle’s team – Meredith Maines, the couple’s chief communications officer, and Liam Maguire, who runs the Sussexes’ PR team in the UK – meeting up in London just last week.
While this may be seen as a promising sign that the monarch and Harry are close to a reconciliation, expert Amanda Platell has said that one royal couple will not take any such steps.
Writing in her Daily Mail Column, Amanda Platell said that Prince William and Princess Kate are unlikely to ever forgive Harry.
She wrote: “Friends say that despite all the pain Harry has caused him, King Charles is a ‘deeply loving and forgiving father’, so a small step towards a rapprochement between father and son certainly seems plausible.
“The trouble is that, while Charles may forgive Harry, hell will freeze over before William does too. Or for that matter, Kate.”
Speaking on why this is the case, Platell said the couple were left to deal with the fallout of Harry and Meghan not only quitting royal life five years ago, but also criticising the monarchy too.
They were then left struggling when Kate was diagnosed with cancer, that is now in remission, in 2024, with William having to continue some royal duties due to a lack of working royals, while also caring for his wife. This was at the same time as the King was also undergoing cancer treatment.
Platell wrote: “As Kate endured her chemotherapy, William was still having to carry out his public engagements when all he probably wanted to do was to be at home. If Harry and Meghan had been around they could have shouldered some of the load – but that prospect was denied William with their selfish departure. Unforgivable.
“I don’t know how Harry sleeps at night knowing he has not just betrayed his brother with his constant stream of vitriol about the royals, but has also been absent at the time of William’s greatest need – coping with both his father and his wife’s cancer ordeals while ploughing on with his royal duties.
“The King may be forgiving of the extra burden he has had to bear without Harry in the fold, as well as the pain caused by the fact he has never got to know his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet. He may even forgive Harry for his vilification of Camilla in his memoir Spare (although I doubt Queen Camilla will be so accommodating). But William will never forgive him.”
None of William’s team were at the meeting last week attended by the King’s aide and Harry’s staff.
