Helicopter crashes into Hudson River with six reported dead | World | News
A helicopter crashed in the Hudson river in New York, killing a six, Associated Press reports. The horrific accident took place at 3.17pm local time today, with two adults and three children from Spain on board.
A pilot was also in the aircraft.
Rescue efforts are underway after the helicopter plummeted down near Pier 40. Emergency services flocked to the scene with vehicles on both sides of the river. A police helicopter is also at the incident.
In a statement on X, the NYPD said: “Due to a helicopter crash in the Hudson River, in the vicinity of the West Side Highway and Spring Street, expect emergency vehicles and traffic delays in the surrounding areas.”
A passerby told Eyewitness News that he saw the helicopter crash. “I heard a loud snap … I looked over … and I could see a helicopter falling on its side and splash into the water,” he said. “I didn’t see anyone come out.”
A social media user shared a clip on X of what appears to be wreckage, adding: “Helicopter crashed in Hudson! The chopper broke off midair and dropped!”
