Heavily pregnant woman, 22, found dead in woods with baby missing | World | News
A heavily pregnant woman has been found dead just days away from giving birth, but an autopsy has revealed that her baby has gone missing. Rebecca Park went missing on November 4, with her last sighting coming as she got into a dark coloured car outside her mum’s house when she was 38 weeks pregnant. After hearing nothing from the 22-year-old, her phone was found abandoned near her last known sighting, and a police hunt began.
After weeks of searching, Rebecca’s body was found nearly 50 miles from her mother’s house in Boon Township, Michigan, with investigators revealing her baby was nowhere to be seen. A search was soon launched to help find the newborn. Officers arrested Rebecca’s fiancé, Richard Lee Falor, and her 21-year-old sister, Kimberly Park; both were detained on separate charges, but neither was charged in relation to Rebecca’s death.
Her partner, Falor, a 43-year-old convicted sex offender, was arrested moments after her body was discovered. He was charged with two drug offences and is being held in jail with a $1m bond.
Speaking to the media when Rebecca first disappeared, Falor said: “Becca told her mom, ‘Hold on. I got somebody to pick me up. This is just something I got to do. I’m sorry.’
“A black sedan pulled up, and she got in. Nobody’s heard from her since.”
Speaking about his relationship, he added: “Me and her have been together for a little over two years, and even when she’s not around me, she’s always in contact with me.
“Me, her mom and sister, we’ve all been calling the hospitals. I just want to know that she’s safe. Our son is safe.”
Kimberley Park is being held in custody at Wexford County Jail, charged with lying to a police officer during a violent crime investigation, tampering with evidence in a criminal case and filing a false report of a felony.
An investigation is continuing into Rebecca’s death and her child’s disappearance, with the local force warning they are only able to release “limited” information.
Releasing a statement, her adopted mum, Stephanie, said: “We have been silent because we do care. We wanted her found.
“We did not want [to] push anybody that would be involved in this way so that she would be able to be found. I never suspected her of running away with the baby. So, we have been preparing ourselves for this outcome.
“She was deeply loved. She was. She had some mental illnesses and some troubles. She was a loving person, but she had her problems. She deserves to be remembered as the sweet girl that she was when she was younger.”
Wexford County Sheriff’s Office added: ” [we are] working diligently to determine the condition and potential whereabouts of the baby”. “We understand the public’s desire for details and their demand for justice for Rebecca and her baby,” Sheriff Trent Taylor said.
“We ask for your patience and understanding as we continue to seek answers for this tragic situation.”
