Harry and Meghan’s Netflix deal at risk as ‘value’ of Sussexes doubted | Royal | News
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s deal renewal with Netflix has been questioned after TV insiders claimed the streaming giant is weighing whether the Sussex couple can provide enough “value for money.” The Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed a lucrative £80million deal with Netflix shortly after they quit their royal duties back in 2020.
Since then, they have released five projects: Harry & Meghan, Live to Lead, Heart of Invictus, Polo, and most recently, Love, Meghan. However, apart from their bombshell docuseries and Meghan’s lifestyle show, their projects have not been particularly successful with the streaming giant, failing to climb to the Top 10. Now, as their deal is about to end later in 2025, insiders suggested that the streaming giant will have to make a tough decision about the future with the Montecito couple.
According to the Sun, a TV insider said: “Netflix have been broadly pleased with the show and don’t care if the reviews are scathing.
“The streamer’s name has been on everyone’s lips for the past week and that’s a victory for them.
“But it’s now a question of whether they feel that striking another deal represents value for money, or if they feel that they have explored all the opportunities they can with the couple.”
With Love, Meghan has been mostly savaged by critics despite being renewed for a second season, which is expected to drop this autumn.
Neither the Duke and Duchess of Sussex nor Netflix have commented on whether the deal will get renewed however, last month, Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria said she is “excited” for what’s to come from the Montecito couple.
Speaking to the Mail before the duchess’s show’s launch, Ms Bajaria revealed the company will stand by Harry and Meghan and added that the duchess’s new show will be a major hit.
She said: “We have Meghan’s new show coming out, which is great.
“It is such a great take on a lifestyle show and showcase for California, Montecito and nature. It really has great takeaways.
“I was like ‘oh my God, I want to really do that pasta.’ There’s really easy great takeaways on life. I am really excited about that coming out.”
