Girl’s chilling screams from bathroom as she’s gang-raped and thrown to her death | World | News
A teenage girl has died after she was allegedly gang-raped by five men before being thrown down a well in India, with one suspect arrested and a manhunt underway to trace the others. The murderous attack, which took place late Wednesday night in Bihar’s Saran district, has sparked outrage among villagers and prompted a police investigation.
The girl, who was a class 10 student, had gone to her family’s former village home when the group allegedly dragged her into a bathroom and assaulted her. Her mother, who lives nearby with two daughters while her husband works out of state, heard her child’s cries for help.
The victim’s mother said: “All the youths together dragged my daughter and took her to the bathroom. They committed the wrong act with her. Meanwhile, my daughter kept screaming for help. Hearing her screams, we reached the spot.”
Local reports suggested that the attackers then carried the girl to a well and threw her in before fleeing into nearby fields.
“The victim’s mother also alleged that one of the accused had previously attempted to assault her daughter.
Her sister confirmed that all five suspects are from the same area and known to the family.
Police said the girl’s body was recovered and handed over to relatives after a post-mortem examination at Chhapra Sadar Hospital.
Saran Police said in a statement: “One named accused, Yuvraj Kumar, was arrested. Raids are being carried out to arrest others.”
The incident triggered anger among villagers, who gathered at the scene demanding justice. Officers deployed additional security to calm tensions before making the arrest.
Sexual violence remains a critical issue across India, where systemic barriers and slow judicial processes often hinder the quest for justice.
Despite national outrage and legal reforms, many women, particularly in rural provinces like Bihar, face significant safety risks due to a combination of social stigma and the physical isolation of village households.
