Germany: Baby girl and her mum killed after horror incident during Easter egg hunt | World | News
Three people, including a 10-month-old girl, were killed Sunday when high winds toppled a tree in northern Germany during an Easter egg hunt, police said. According to the police, around 50 people from a nearby residential facility for new mothers, pregnant women and children were attending the event in woods near the town of Satrupholm at about 11 am when a 30-meter (100-foot) tree fell on the group.
A strong wind caused a large tree to fall, trapping four people underneath and prompting a big emergency response. About 80 rescuers arrived soon after 11am following urgent calls for help. Sadly, despite their efforts, a 21‑year‑old mother, her 10‑month‑old baby, and a 16‑year‑old girl died in the accident.
An 18-year-old woman suffered serious injuries and was brought to the hospital by helicopter.
The facility, which is part of the state-funded child welfare system, provides support for pregnant women and new mothers. Grief counsellors were sent to help those who survived the incident.
Photos published by Bild showed Easter eggs scattered on the ground and two victims covered with white sheets.
The area had been under a high winds warning from the German weather service.
