Games coming out in May 2025 – Elden Ring Nightreign, Doom Dark Ages and more | Gaming | Entertainment

With the Switch 2 launching in June and GTA 6 supposedly launching this autumn, 2025 is shaping up to be a banner year for the gaming industry.

Even the traditionally quiet month of May is packed with fantastic game releases thanks to the likes of Doom: The Dark Ages and Elden Ring Nightreign.

If you’re wondering what to spend your money on this month, then Express.co.uk has put together a list of some of the biggest new releases coming in the month of May.

Revenge of the Savage Planet – May 8

Journey to the Savage Planet was a pleasant surprise when it launched back in 2020, offering a colourful take on the Metroidvania genre that was full of charm and personality.

The sequel looks like it will provide more of the same, featuring new locations to explore, abilities to master and obstacles to overcome.

With a few quality of life upgrades, not to mention some clever new items and puzzles, Revenge of the Savage Planet could be another hidden gem in a year that’s already been kind to gamers.

The Precinct

The Precinct – May 13

The Precinct provides a unique twist on the classic GTA formula, putting players in the shoes of the cops instead of the criminals.

The demo sees players work the beat, write tickets, arrest criminals and participate in high-speed chases throughout the gritty open-world city.

If the game opens up and introduces some compelling characters and interesting missions, then it could be one of this year’s sleeper hits.

Labyrinth of the Demon King

Labyrinth of the Demon King – May 13

Labyrinth of the Demon King is a first-person dungeon-crawler that’s presented in the style of a classic PSOne game.

The most obvious inspiration of FromSoftware’s forgotten King’s Field series, albeit with shades of Resident Evil, Silent Hill and Onimusha.

It’s certainly one of the most visually interesting and stylish games of the year so far, and one that I’m personally looking forward to checking out.

Doom: The Dark Ages

Doom: The Dark Ages – May 15

It’s hard to believe that the excellent Doom Eternal launched all the way back in 2020, and even harder to believe that it’s taken this long to release a follow-up!

Doom: The Dark Ages is actually a prequel to the Doom series, taking place in what has been described as a “techno medieval” setting, complete with weapons that fire bone fragments, not to mention maces and flails.

If it’s anywhere near as fun as its predecessors then fans should be in for a treat. It’s also coming to Xbox Game Pass on day one, which is another compelling reason to subscribe.

Capcom Fighting Collection 2

Capcom Fighting Collection 2 – May 16

The new Capcom Fighting Collection contains some of my favourite fighting games from what is arguably the golden age for the genre.

This includes Dreamcast classics such as Power Stone and its sequel, as well as the excellent Capcom vs SNK games and so much more.

Fingers crossed this leads to a new Power Stone game, especially if the first two prove popular in online multiplayer.
