Travel experts have compiled a list of the six beaches Brits should visit before they are ruined by tourism. Asia is becoming a more popular holiday destination, with an 11% increase in tourism from 2024 to the first half of 2025.
Mattia Valdegamberi, product manager of Southeast Asia at Wendy Wu Tours, and Janin Leach, senior product executive for southeast Asia at Audley Travel, chose six beaches for the Mail that they say are “wild” and “untouched”. Included in this list is Khanom in Thailand. Blond Travels called it “quiet, empty and undiscovered” by mass tourism, with white sand beaches, lush forests and colourful coral reefs. It is great for scuba diving, snorkelling, and swimming, and even offers the chance to see rare pink Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins. You can see them in the calm waters near the shore, particularly around the coastlines of Khanom and opposite the Donsak pier. Boat tours are available, but eco-friendly options are encouraged to minimise disturbance to the dolphins.
Another on the list is Komodo and Flores in Indonesia. The main attractions are seeing the Komodo dragons in their natural habitat and experiencing world-class diving and snorkelling.
A famous destination in Komodo National Park, located on Komodo Island, is Pink Beach, characterised by its clear turquoise waters, lush greenery, and vibrant coral reefs. There are other pink beaches near Padar Island.
The beaches’ pink colour comes from a mix of white sand and red coral fragments or red foraminifera, and it is a popular spot due to the vibrant marine life.
