One of the most eagerly awaited film releases of the year is nearly upon us, and here’s everything you need to know.

Wicked: For Good is the sequel to 2024’s Wicked. Together, these films form the big screen adaptation of the smash-hit musical, with the follow-up covering the second act of the 2003 stage sensation.

The beloved theatre production is itself an adaptation of the bestselling 1995 novel by Gregory Maguire, which reimagined L Frank Baum’s 1900 classic, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and its 1939 film version.

However, Wicked is told from the perspective of Oz’s Wicked Witch of the West.

What is Wicked For Good about?

The second film is set years after the events of the first film, Wicked, which was released in 2024. Elphaba Thropp is now widely known across the land of Oz and its inhabitants as the Wicked Witch of the West, living in exile in the Ozian forest as a fugitive.

Meanwhile, Galinda Upland, known as Glinda the Good, is a celebrated public figure residing in Emerald City’s palace. She is under the watchful eyes of the Wizard and Madame Morrible , reports the Mirror.

As they face the repercussions of their actions, their relationship is tested by a series of events, including the unexpected arrival of Dorothy Gale from Kansas, that will forever alter the Land of Oz.

Who is in the Wicked For Good cast?

The original film’s main cast, including Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, Ariana Grande as Glinda and Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, are all set to return for the sequel.

Michelle Yeoh will reprise her role as Madame Morrible, Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard of Oz and SNL alum Bowen Yang, whose character now serves as Elphaba’s assistant. Ethan Slater also returns as Boq Woodsman (a composite character of the Tin Man), and Marissa Bode plays Nessarose Thropp, Elphaba’s half-sister.

Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage will once again lend his voice to Doctor Dillamond, a talking Goat and former history professor at Shiz University.

New additions to the cast include Colman Domingo, known for The Running Man remake as well as Netflix shows Four Seasons and The Madness. He voices Brrr the Cowardly Lion.

Who portrays Dorothy in Wicked For Good?

Dorothy, the central character in the original film and book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, is slated to appear in Wicked For Good. While the part is relatively minor in the stage version, it is reported to be a larger role in the film.

The actor playing the character has not yet been announced in any cast listings. However, fans speculate that young Irish actress Alisha Weir, a 16 year old from Dublin who has already landed some standout roles, is taking on the role.

She previously starred in the film adaptation of Matilda The Musical, playing the lead role and also portrayed the eponymous Abigail, in the 2024 vampire horror comedy. Speculation about her involvement in the Wicked sequel intensified after she was spotted at the premiere of the first film alongside its stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.

When will Wicked For Good hit the screens and will it be available for streaming?

Wicked For Good is slated to hit the big screen on 21 November this year. However, it will be exclusively released in cinemas, meaning fans will have to wait a bit longer before they can enjoy it from the comfort of their homes.

The original film was made accessible on Sky Cinema and NOW in July earlier this year, approximately eight months after its initial theatre run. If the sequel follows the same release pattern, then it will be July 2026 when the sequel becomes available for streaming.
