Flight attendant reveals the dirtiest spots on a plane | Travel News | Travel
Window Shades
One of the most shocking insights Dallas shares is that window shades are never cleaned.
“I’ve never seen the window shades get wiped off ever in my career,” she says.
With countless passengers touching them throughout the day, they accumulate layers of dirt and bacteria, making them one of the dirtiest spots on the plane.
Bathroom Sinks
The aeroplane bathroom is another area where cleanliness is lacking.
According to Dallas, not only are the sinks rarely cleaned, but they also see some pretty gross behaviour.
“I’ve seen people vomit inside of the bathroom sinks numerous times, so if you drop something in there, I would consider it a loss,” she warned.
Even the water in the sink, which is not potable due to high bacterial content, poses a risk.
“Washing your hands with it is probably not great,” she adds, noting that the water even degrades her nails, regardless of whether she uses nail polish, gel, or dip.
Toilet Seats and Carpets
If you thought the sinks were bad, the toilet seats and carpets were worse.
Dallas reveals that she has only seen the toilet seats get cleaned once in her entire career.
The carpets fare no better, with passengers often vomiting on them or rubbing their bare feet into the fibres.
“I think we’ve all seen the video of the sewage leaking all over the carpet,” she says, underscoring just how dirty they can be.
Seat Belts and Overhead Bins
Dallas also cautions against touching seat belts and overhead bins.
While the buckle of the seat belt is bad enough, the fabric strap itself is often exposed to even more filth.
“I’ve seen blowout diapers and vomit on it numerous times,” she revealed.
The overhead bins, which people frequently touch after dragging their luggage through dirty airport floors, are another overlooked area.
“Never in my career have I seen those get cleaned out,” she stated.
