F1 grid for 2025 finally confirmed as VCARB announce Liam Lawson replacement | F1 | Sport
Formula Two vice champion Isack Hadjar will replace Liam Lawson at VCARB for the 2025 season, the team have confirmed.
Hadjar scored a remarkable four feature race victories during the 2024 F2 season but missed out on the title to Sauber-bound Gabriel Bortoleto during the final round in Abu Dhabi.
The 20-year-old has been rewarded for his fine performances with a promotion to VCARB, replacing Lawson after he was called up to partner Max Verstappen at Red Bull for the 2025 campaign.
“I’m very excited to step into my new role at VCARB,” Hadjar said on Friday. “This is huge for myself, my family and all the people who have believed in me from the beginning.
“The journey from karting through the ranks in single-seaters, to now being in Formula One is the moment I’ve been working towards my whole life, it is the dream.”
“I feel like I’m stepping into a whole new universe, driving a much faster car and racing with the best drivers in the world. It’ll be a huge learning curve, but I’m ready to work hard and do the best I can for the team.
“I look forward to working with and learning from Yuki [Tsunoda]. I’ve always looked up to him, he went through the Red Bull Junior Program, like myself, and we’ve shared a similar path to F1. He’s very experienced and will be good to learn from.”
Hadjar’s arrival on the grid means that the full line-up for the 2025 season is complete. The upcoming campaign promises a changing of the guard, with six drivers facing their first full years in the series.
Alongside Hadjar and Lawson, F2 champion Bortoleto is stepping up to partner Nico Hulkenberg at Sauber. Oliver Bearman will race for Haas after two appearances in 2024, and Jack Doohan replaces Esteban Ocon at Alpine. Then there is Kimi Antonelli, who faces the daunting challenge of filling Lewis Hamilton‘s shoes at Mercedes.
