easyJet asks passengers ‘please check’ before arriving at airport | UK | News
UK airline EasyJet has issued a ‘please check’ alert for holidaymakers bound for Turkey, a popular European destination among Brits. The low-cost airline is stressing to passengers to “please check that your passport is valid” before jetting off to this tourist hotspot.
Britons could run into issues if they fail to meet the entry requirements outlined by the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs or as advised on local consular platforms like the FCDO website. Usually, visas aren’t mandatory for most EU citizens or British passport holders for tourist visits under 90 days within a 180-day stretch.
“However, there are exceptions such as service passport holders, or British Overseas Citizens, so please check up to date advice before you travel,” easyJet advises further. It cautions that “Sometimes you may need more than just a passport or identification card to go through border security and continue you on your journey or holiday.”
From January 1, 2015, your passport must be valid for a minimum of 60 days past the expiry of your visa, e-visa, visa waiver, or residence permission. Should your visa permit a 90-day occupancy, your passport needs to be valid for no less than 150 days (90 days + 60 days) from the date of entrance.
Travellers heading to Turkey for leisure or business can secure an e-Visa via www.evisa.gov.tr. Those planning to work or study should procure a standard visa through Turkish Embassies or Consulates, reports Lancs Live.
British passport holders with specific categorisations, like British National (Overseas), British Overseas Citizen, British Protected Person, British Subject, or British Overseas Territories Citizen, are advised to verify visa requirements with the Turkish Consulate General before travelling. Official guidance and up-to-date travel directives can be found on Gov.uk.
The advisory is issued in anticipation of the Easter holiday period. Numerous families are expected to embark on vacations due to the forthcoming bank holidays.
Turkey, Tunisia, Jordan, Morocco, and Egypt are also subject to extra security measures. As EasyJet states on its website: “Extra security measures are currently being applied to flights from Turkey, Tunisia, Jordan, Morocco, and Egypt to the UK.”
These additional checks will take place at the gate just before boarding commences. On the EasyJet website, there’s a section addressing common queries regarding the heightened security procedures.
When asked if passengers should plan to arrive earlier than usual at the airport or gate, the airline’s response is: “There is no requirement to come to the airport earlier than shown on your confirmation email, but please make sure you arrive at the gate as soon as your gate is announced.”
easyJet has confirmed that passengers are allowed to bring personal electronic devices such as laptops, tablets, and mobiles on board. However, the airline advises: “Please make sure your devices are charged, as you may be asked to turn them on during the security check. If you cannot turn on your device, you may be required to travel without it or place your item for safe carriage in the hold.”
The airline also states that it will not provide chargers at the gate. easyJet emphasises the importance of informing passengers about these requirements: “Our aim is we will tell all of our passengers what the requirements are so they will be fully aware before arriving at the airport.”
These rules apply specifically to flights departing from Turkey, Egypt, and Tunisia, as well as flights to the UK from Morocco and Jordan. For those flying from Egypt, Jordan, or Morocco, easyJet notes: “Due to local security regulations, all passengers, including passengers with cabin bags only, must go to Bag Drop before going through .”
