Football fans have reacted with fury as Donald Trump plays a major role at the World Cup 2026 draw in Washington. The US president was awarded a peace prize and allowed to take part in the draw, sparking frustration from viewers on social media platform X.

One person wrote: “Tuned in to watch the world cup draw and its just this taklu gianni infantino kissing trump’s ass and spreading this b******t propaganda. Draw the teams ffs.” Another commented: “There was global condemnation & constant crying at Qatar having the World Cup.

“What we are witnessing with USA & Trump is so comfortably worse & a bigger disgrace for the sport & the globe, but of course, no one will care because it’s the West. Hypocrites. #FIFAWorldCup2026.”

A third added: “This seems more like a Trump special than the FIFA World Cup Draw.”

The US president was awarded a the newly created FIFA peace prize during proceedings. FIFA president Gianni Infantino said: “This is your prize, this is your peace prize.”

The football association said the prize rewards “individuals who have taken exceptional and extraordinary actions for peace and by doing so have united people across the world”.

Mr Trump told reporters upon arriving at the Kennedy Center that he didn’t know whether he was going to receive it.

He said: “I don’t need prizes. I just want to save lives.”
